Many people have problems with aggressive CA Cichlids. It seems many of these people have the temp at 80* or higher. Try slowly turning the temp down a bit to 76* or so. It really seems to help and the fish will do fine.

Lowering the temp may slow growth slightly but will generally increase lifespan. What it also does is increase the dissolved oxygen and generally, lower bacteria count in the water. Our club library has a book on Costa Rican fish. Each species has various locations it may be found in, and the temp differences are sometimes large, as much as 20F degrees.
