Hi guys! My grandmother is taking down her cichlid tank and wants me to take her fish. Most of them are not a problem; however, she has one male Cynotilapia afra "Cobue." I have about a half-dozen Pseudotropheus demasoni (I started with 15. Man those guys are vicious to each other.) My tank is a 48" 90 gallon. Does the afra look too much like the demasoni? Will he just get killed by them? Or are they likely to leave him alone?

The Cobue/Cobwe variant should look different enough to be okay--the possible future problem is that as a lonely kinda guy, he may start looking at some other male's girlfriends as potential 'dates'. The other male doesn't like the afra dancing with his girl....same ol' story

In general, Cynos are well equipped to take care of and defend themselves!

What size is the afra? I have a group of C.afra 'hai reef' that are similar in color and never had any problem with the demasoni in a 75. Granted the afra has always been larger then the demasoni so I don't know how they'd do if everyone was close in size.
