is cyno afra mara a nickname for a cynotilapia species or is it its own subspecies? the lfs has cyno afra mara for sale but i don't see them in the profiles. any clue? i liked them and wanted to know more about them.

Be careful as there is also a C. sp. Lion from Mara Rocks also. They do look quite different though.

Like Chapman76 stated, there is a possibility it is the sp. lion Mara Rocks, as well as one of the afra Mara Rocks (I think there might be two distinct color morphs at that location - I'll have to look again).

I would say that if they are one of the "afras", they will be less aggressive than the "lion's".

Yes, that looks like it. There were a lot of brown ones in the same tank with a few nicely colored ones. Probably youngsters and females. I wonder why this fish is not in the profiles....although it seems like a lot of those cyno species look alike. Thanks for the link.

There are a lot of species missing from the profiles - it would help the forum to have people submit data from experience.

There is also Cynotilapia afra "Mara point". It has more black in the dorsal fin. Mara point is actually across the lake and further south from Mara rock.
