have 11 ten-day-old yellow lab fry, eating & growing well. some are a nice yellow & showing bits of black. others are showing barring along with their bits of black, which i understand is undesirable. i've read differing opinions on the cause of the barring, like genetics and/ or stress.

question: should they be culled, or could the bars just be stress? ( like me staring at them :D )

TIA,
krista

If you are talking about the vertical bars on the body, this is not necessarily bad. In your place, I would wait until the fish were older before making any decision. A 'good' YL can show those bars when slightly stressed and then not show them much at all as an adult.

Some of my YL fry show some barring between 0.75 and 1.25 inches, but often it goes away as they mature.

like this?

give them time then see if they still have it. Mine have it when stressed a bit. Goes away as they get older.
