Any suggestions? I had a spawn of Thorichthys maculipinnis in my work tank. This was the pairs first spawn so I wasn't too concerned about the fry making it. Unfortunately, I came into work today and found the female wedged between a rock and the glass. She was dead :(

Since she was a new bloodline, I would really like to save the fry now. I've syphoned about 40 into a bag which is still in the tank to keep the temp stable for the day. I will be bringing them home tonight and putting them into my 15 Gal to raise them.

I've never moved fry this young though. My home is only about 10 mins away so the water shouldn't be too different. Anything special I should do to acclimate them? Float the bag and slowly drip them in like I normally do with larger fish?

Any advice appreciated.

I can't give you much advice. When I moved some of my sajica spawn they were about a week old and I slowly acclimated them to the 10g. In about 2 days they were all dead. Luckily I left some with the parents and waited until they were about 5 weeks to move them the next time. I had much better results. Anyway you could put them in a breeders net in the tank with the dad?

IMO it would be good to leave at least some with the dad. Even though it sucks that it killed your female, he most likely thought is was best for the fry. He should protect them and raise them every well even with no female.

I did. I brought about 40 home and left about 20 with the dad. Hard to say but it looks like there are about 10 - 15 left this morning.

So far things are going okay at home but we'll see if they make it long term.
