I have a baenchi that has been in a community tank with a dominant male that has never held and was wandering if it may be a male? I took it out and put it in a 40 long and added 2 females and was curious how long it would take to color up if it was a male? The fish is about 3" and is very healthy. all the water parameters are fine, and should also mention that the egg spots on its caudal fin are getting brighter and i am starting to notice some color in the dorsal, it has also developed some chrome blue color[very little] on its face back by the gill covers. How long would it take to color if it is going to?

It depends on the individual and the environment.
It must be dominant for it to color up.
Try giving it good pellets such as New Life Spectrum or Hikari.
To answer your question, it will likeley color up between 2 weeks to a few months.
