55gal setup

1389 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Sick-Lid-4-Life
so i have a basic setup right now gravel, driftwood, fakeplant, and some rocks for the background.
but i want to change it, maybe adding more driftwood getting rid of the gravel and adding sand and also some real plants. but i want the plants to be bamboo (kinda of a personal preference)
what do yall think will it just look stupid or be alright? also wanting to get rid of the rock background.
thanks

You can do what you want really, it's all personal preference. Before you jump into live plants you might want to do some research though, sand isn't always the best substrate for plants (it's not necessarily bad either.) Bamboo isn't a true aquatic plant, it seems to do okay for a while but eventually it will die if kept completely submerged, that's not a big deal if you are okay with replacing the bamboo every once in a while with fresh stuff. I'm not sure how quickly the smaller pieces of bamboo grow or how to propagate them but it might be possible to grow your own in a pot or planter then transplant clippings into the aquarium when needed. Good luck with the project.

Gotta warn you tho, planted tanks can be difficult and require more money (LIghting!) Than fish only tanks.
Doesnt wood usually make water softer? I would look into that before you add more wood to the tank especially if your keeping cichlids

Driftwood will, yes. I'm not sure about any other woods.
