I am upgrading tanks for some small Tangs I have. So far I plan on stocking these fish in the 55g Tang Tank; 4 Red Lufubu Comps, 1 all gold mutt comp, 3 julie transcriptus and 2 gold occies. What other Tangs do you think I could/should add?

note: Tank is not for Breeding, if I do develop any pairs I will move them to their own tank.

I am asking only because I could find any info on it; why can't I mix two groups of shellies in a 55g? It would be 2 gold occies and 4 sunspot brevis. Do shellies just not tolerate shellies that are different? I was just thinking a 4 footer would be enough room for the shellie groups to steak out their own territories.

I think this tank is overcrowded...

2 types of calvus/comp, 2 types of shellies, paracyps., standard cyps, juli., cats...

This is my 2 cents.
Skip the cyps.. Although it is a 48" tank, the volumn of the tank is a little small.
Skip 1 type of shellies..
Skip the cats.

You have alot of fish that will try to take over the bottom or the rocks; juli., calvus/comp, paracyps. male, shellies, and the cats. Now you see how your floor plan can disappear real quick. Tang. is best in a show tank where everyone has a little place of area by themselves and therefore acts more like their own behavior.

For right now I'd like to do:
4 Red Lufubu Comps & 1 all gold mutt comp
3 julie transcriptus
2 gold occies
8-10 leptosoma (Blue flash or Neonback)

My understanding is that Comps and Julies will own the rocks. Leptosoma will own the open water. occies will take over the shells. As of right now the comps julies and occies are coexisting together peacefully. I think once I move them into the 55g they will be a lot happier.

How did your community work out?

I have a similar setup that I am working on:

5 Alt.comp. Firefins
5 petricola cats
3 N.brevis
1 Spiny Eel (Aeth.ellipfiser)
2 Cyp.lepts (expanding to 12 soon)

My tank is a 3ft. 48gal (20" tall). The Brevis chase the two Cyps and everyone is shy of the eel, but otherwise no issues. The Comps are growing and may pair off, and I'll move pairs or tortured individuals.
