Hey I wanted to know what your thoughts are on putting a 55G on the carpet with no stand and filling it up? The reason I want to do this is im going to be moving in a month or so and I would like to get a spare 55G for cheap and put my fish in there and while my 75G is empty I want to order a nice 3D backround and be able to silicone it in place while my fish are in the 55G. Has anyone done this? It would only be setup like that for about 2 weeks.

I had my 55g on the carpet filled with a bit of water for a while, though that was before it was set up at all, so no fish, filters, or tank decorations to deal with! I just took a couple trash bags and laid them under the tank so that if any water spilled over the edge, it wouldn't get into the carpet.

You could do it but the problem would be that it wouldn't be completely flat. I'd recommend getting a 4' x 2' piece of plywood and some shims for super cheap from Home Depot or Lowe's or somewhere and putting that on the carpet, then using the shims to flatten it out. It's the safest way. Also make sure the tank isn't in a location where you'd accidentally kick it.
