Hello,

I am in the process of finalizing my stocking list for my 55 gallon. Could I put the following fish in together without too much aggression?

5 Maingano (1m/4f)
5 Yellow Labs (1m/4f)
1 male Pseudotropheous acei "Yellow Tail"
1 male Metriaclima estherae "Pulu Point"
1 male Pseudotropheus elongatus Mphanga
1 male Metriaclima sp OB compact "Blueberry"

OR...

5 Maingano (1m/4f)
5 Yellow Labs (1m/4f)
5 Metriaclima estherae "Pulu Point" (1m/4f)

Thanks!!!

Welcome to Cichlid-forum!

Malawi do better in harem groups with lots of females and one male. Therefore the first plan is not likely to work well.

The second plan has two issues: Maingano are aggressive and often better with 1m:7f in a larger tank. And the mix of labs and estherae is likely to result in cross breeding.

What about 1m:4f of these?
Labidochromis caeruleus (yellow labs)
Cynotilapia sp. hara
Iodotropheus sprengerae (rusties)

We don't have many choices of fish in Tasmania. We can only get about 15 different types of mbuna and 10 peacocks, and most of the peacocks are the more aggressive types. Also, we can't legally sell fry here, so I need to avoid fry as much as I can.

I might go for electric yellows and peacocks. This was my original plan.
