hello all i have a 29 gallon tank with a cascade 1000 on it. It's 265 gph. i wanted to run a ugj system, the powerhead i will be using is marineland maxi-jet 400. powerhead mode 110 max gph, circualtion pump mode 500 max gph. so is that to much water flow for fish. i could split the hose return on the cascade to run the ugj system if i have to, thats another idea i had.

Using your canister to power the ug is not really a great idea, it will cause the pump motor to burn out sooner.
Higher pressure on the outlet of a pump does not burn out a pump motor. It will only burn out a motor if the flow is zero.

A pump is designed to produce a change in pressure between the inlet and the outlet. The pump inlet has a minimum pressure needed to operate and then it provides a differential X feet of head on the outlet. If you draw a box around the pump only, you will note that the outlet of the pump is always at inlet pressure + X feet of head regardless of what happens "outside the box".
