Hi again everyone. I posted last week about having a 65 gallon(4ft long) tank. I have the oscar that I am getting rid of this week. My lfs has this wild sevrums that are really awsome looking. I was wondering if the sevrum would be ok with my 10 in jack dempsy?Or are they not aggressive enough?

Also I has a 37 gallon tank before the one I had now and before I got rid of it I kept gettings these bugs. No matter what I did they just kept coming back. Today I opened the lid of my tank and found 5-6 of them.. This tank has been setup for a little over 3 weeks now and the guy at my lfs says they have them but don't know what they are or how to get rid of them. Any ideas?

Thanks

severums are sometimes terrors, but sometimes they are pretty docile. I would imagine a wild caught one to be more aggresive though. I would try it and remove one if it turns out to be a problem, thats if of course the severum is similar sized. I wouldn't do it if they were too much smaller.
About the bugs, I had them for a while until I got some swordtails. The swordtails got eaten in about two months, but they ate all the bugs and they never came back. More frequent water changes help too. Try upping it to twice a week one third of the water.

I was thinking about getting some type of schooling fish and thought they might solve the problem. The sevrums are anywhere from 4-6 in in size...The Jack is about 10in....LOL...I was more worried that the sevrum would get beaten up. I have also thought about getting a sal or maybe a rainbow...but I saw these sevrums today and really wanted them and I have never owned a wild caught fish....I saw them next to the regular sevrums and the diffrenece was a amazon in color...

In my 55 i am torn between what to do...

Right now there is my jack(which I am keeping and is about 10 in), a tiger Oscar(about 4in) and a small pleco....I am thinking that the tank will be to small to keep the Oscar(even though I love the fish just don't have the room for a bigger tank)....So unless told otherwise that the oscar would be ok with the jack in that tank I am working on lining up someone to take the oscar...

I would either like to get

a. the wild severum
b. a sal
c.Up to any other suggestions

I would like to also be able(if possible) be able to put 3-5 schooling fishin in there to take up the upper half of the tank....but they are a secondary thing for me at this point...I am open to any and all sugesstions for what might work in my tank...

Thanks

I keep severums with my Jack's without any issue, but my tank is much larger. The problem is the severum is eventually going to get pretty big. They will get 10inches or maybe a little larger with proper care. That will be 2 very large fish for a 55g tank. They should get along, but you had better have really good filtration and do large weekly water changes. Severums tend to be pigs and will dirty up the water pretty quickly. You would be better off with 2 convicts or a firemouth if you cannot get a larger tank.

Good luck with what ever you decide!

I think your tank is too small to add any more cichlids. Your jack is already cramped in a 4 foot tank and sevs can get pretty big. I say either just get some dithers for your jack or get a larger tank (which would be the nice thing to do) if you want to add more cichlids. By larger I mean a 6 foot tank. Your jack is cramped in a 4 footer.

I thought a 4 ft tank was enough for my jack(from the cookie cutter from the site)...I have no problem if you guys think adding more cichlids is a bad idea...

Hypothetically if I was to get rid of the jack(which i don't want to because I have had him forever) what would you guys suggest for a 65 gallon tank??

the jack will work in the 55, and you should be able to fit the salvini in with it. As for schooling fish, I would go with a bunch of giant danios.
