Hi all

I have started the background for my 125-gallon Mbuna. As of now, I am doing modules, not a full background. Here is the first section I have completed. I plan to carve out a box behind it where the FX6 intake and Ehein 200 watt heater will live. The FX6 return will live in the upper right corner somewhere. With a 3in duckbill return on it. Not the standard FX return. It sits about 8 inches from front to back now. The plan is to add piles of rocks out from and all the way across the 6 length of the tank.

Do you think it sticks too far out into the tank. I can easily drop it down to 6 inches front to back. But I was looking for some opinions.

Progress. Slow. Fun. Aggravating. Progress. Getting close to have the shape finalized. Then carving out the back for the heaters and intakes is next.

Thanks for looking

Thanks for the feedback! I agree with you.

The tank is 18 inches front to back. In this pic, there are 4 pieces of 2-inch foam together. So 8 inches front to back. I decided to drop off the back 2 inches. That way it will be about 6 inches front to back. That will give me about 3 inches behind the background to hide the heater and intake while still giving me enough room out front to create some texture.

I figure I would end up stacking rocks there anyway so maybe it is kind of a wash.

I am adding in some LocLine duckbill outlets in place of the standard dual FX return nozzles. I needed to punch a 1 5/8" diameter hole all the way through my background to make this happen.

I needed the PVC elbow and coupling to fit in there so I can thread in the LocLine adaptor.

I made my own hole saw. Tested out perfectly. Now to "drill" the hole in the background.

This is the rock formation I plan to recreate in front of the background I am creating.
