Follow up: 7/9/11, I am happy to say customer service is alive and well at Live Fish Direct!
After posting my original review I was contacted by Josh Davis who proactively worked to resolve my concerns. It's not often a business will go above and beyond, but Josh has-and in doing so has earned my appreciation.
I will leave the original review posted up as a guide for others to contact Josh himself if you have concerns.
Original review: Roughly two months ago I purchased a set of juvenile yellow labs and rusty cichlids. With the rusty I had ordered five, one of which appeared to have been half starved before being shipped. I did contact and send pictures of the fish, but received a less than caring response. Would it not have been easier to bag up a quality fish? The rusty is still recovering...
Live Fish Direct also sent me an extra yellow lab, marked free on the bag. Normally this would be cool, but the lab they sent as free is of poor quality (barely yellow with yellow bars).
While this may sound like a minor grip, consider the fact that I ordered the fish because I thought I would receive quality stock.
I have placed several orders and never had a dead fish, not even once. Their selection is the BOMB! They are always friendly and prompt to return calls and emails if you have any questions. Only wish I had more room for more tanks to buy more fish. Keep up the awesome job
I have ordered three times totaling almost $400. I am happy with almost all of my fish. My only advice is that if you want a male ORDER A MALE, don't select unsexed. I was kinda new to the hobby my first order and ended up with a bunch of pale plain females. I have since sold them and replaced with males. After talking with Josh and making sure I ordered males I have been nothing but happy. Heck they even gave me a decent credit. I really have some great looking fish from this place and am looking forward to ordering a few more once the males I want are in stock.
I was very nervous about buying live fish over the internet,but because of limited local selection i had to try it. I searched around the internet for weeks and found LFD to have the best selection and price. THe shipping price was the cheapest around. I got my fish early on the day i specified and they came very professionally packed in doubled bags with heat packs. Fish were very active and were great quality. Only somewhat negative was the size was a little smaller than they said. But i am very satisfied with the quality of the fish. Will definetely buy from them again.
I first contacted live fish direct seeking advice about my first peacock purchase - they responded quickly, were polite, gave great information. A few weeks later I ordered 17 German Red peacock cichlids - they arrived yesterday morning, well packaged, all live and healthy. Not to mention they threw in two free peacocks! They are all the size specified and I'm very pleased with my first experience ordering fish online. Will def. order from them in the future!
My recent order has been everything you could hope for. They sent what I ordered, when I wanted it, and responded quickly to info requests. The fish are healthy, well formed and with the color I expected. What more could you want?
I ordered 12 frontosa from these guys and I ended up having four of them die, which was probably my fault. Well these guys kindly told me what I had done wrong in putting the new fish in the tank and they refunded me my money on the dead fish. They have been very helpful through this whole process. I currently have another order from them and I will order from them again. Order from these guys and you won't be regret it. By the way the frontosa are beautiful and are already showing alot of blue color.
They have SERIOUS issues with shipments.. Had two shipments that had to be cancelled due to problems with the contracted delivery agency. The second shipment they didn't even bother to call beforehand. The fish that I did get were OK. Not great, not poor.
I am seeking better sources with more reliable shipping methods. I recommend you do the same.
After placing an order for 6 occelatus "Blue" I discovered the night before I was supposed to receive my fish that they had not been shipped. I had to make contact to find out what went wrong. After correcting the problem, my fish were again not shipped out. After 2 failed tries I finally received my fish only to find that they sent me conflicting sizes which has resulted in serious aggression in my tank. I ordered .75" to 1" and received a combo or .25" fry all the way up to just over 1". They also sent me a freebie for all the problems I encountered which they told me was another occie. Well they actually sent me a A. Comp. which is a cool freebie but not in any way close to a occelatus. Very disppointed in the way it all went down and I will not order from them again!
