Most tropical fish prefer temperatures between 78 degreed and 82 degrees Fahrenheit ( 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.) Since tropical fish are very sensitive to changes in water temperature, it is important to maintain a constant temperature with only minimal fluctuations. Your new Top Fin Floating Thermometer will help you maintain the proper temperature for your fish. Thermometer measures 4.5 inches in length, it will float in the aquarium or you can attach it with an included suction cup.
I have a bunch of these. Assuming you get a good one, it's foolproof. The question is whether it was correctly calibrated by the manufacturer. A good idea is to go to the store and only buy ones that show a temperature that agrees with other thermometers there.
Like the other guy said, it's a thermometer, what else is there to say?
Well a little actually. These are pretty well the cheapest meters out there, and probably the most widely available. They are great for smaller fish and goldfish, and other ornimentals, but big cichlids will break them. For some reason they always seem to figure out that banging the thing against the glass gets attention. Crafty lil' buggers.
These are also nice because the will float freely in the tank, and kids find that just fantastic.
These things can't really compare to tempstrips, but I still love them.
This thermometer wasn't to bad, of course it was hard to see the numbers and sometimes get an accurate reading, but it worked pretty well for the most part, until one of my Jack Dempsey's broke two of them! I guess he didn't like it in his tank, I don't know. I don't know how he broke it and I don't know if other people have had the same experience.
I've always found these units to be just a bit off because of the placement of the number (temperature) scale. Once you know how much its off, you can deal with it and simply watch for changes up or down.
