Used to clean and fill your tank by attaching to an existing water faucet.
These siphons can be purchased with different lengths in both the siphon tube and in the hose. Siphon tubes come in sizes ranging from 20 inches to 72 inches. Hoses come in sizes from 25 feet to 100 feet.
I can remember the days prior to the PYTHON. Buckets, lifting, pouring. A labor intensive nightmare. Now I simply "snap" the connector to the faucet(using the brass snap fitting sold separately)turn on the water, and clean my gravel. To fill; just adjust the temp and switch the directional flow over and fill. A child could do it. If you cannot use this you are an egg-head. Maybe the bucket method is more to your intellectual capacity. LABOR SAVER INNOVATIVE EFFECTIVE BUY ONE OR USE A BUCKET YOUR CHOICE!!!!
I don't know what I would do without a Python. I use buckets to change the water in my tank in the past, and it took forever. Since I got a Python, water changes are a breeze with no heavy lifting. A must have for all fishkeepers.
I have a 65 gal. tank in our living room. Had been using a siphon vaccuum into a bucket...back and forth. Then back and forth again to refill. No more.
I did two things to improve useability for me: I cut the 50-ft. length down by about 12 ft. which improved the suction and got rid of excess length. Second, I am a homebrewer and frequently use hose attachments for the kitchen faucet. For this purpose, I already have a portable dishwasher-style aerator attachment on the faucet. It allows me to quickly attach hoses to the faucet with "quick-disconnects". These adapters use the same garden-hose threads used by the Python pump. I simply screwed one of these onto the pump. Now when I need to do a water change, all I do is snap it on and turn on the water.
i recently purchased this product a few days ago. having also a 160 gallon tank i needed something simple to make easy water changes. this product is a godsend. works very well as advertised. also the very flexible soft tubing is perfect for siphoning manuverability. the only thing i would change is an increase in flow rate. other than that it is almost perfect.
You absolutely need one of these or an equivalent for a large tank.
Connect to an indoor or outdoor faucet. Turn on. Fill your tank. You will have to add water conditioner to the tank first, with the dosage based on total tank capacity, not the amount of water added.
To change water, turn a switch, turn on the faucet to get a siphon suction going. When the siphon is going, you can turn the faucet off so you don't waste any more water. At that point, I disconnect the faucet connection and let the water drain in the front yard.
Water changes could not be easier without actually having a faucet and drain hooked up to the tank!
I love my Python, but I am consistently having constant problems with the faucet connection coming apart, and have had it come apart at another connection as well. Cheap plastic fittings where brass or at least better plastic would be better.
"Expensive....but makes water changes alot easier"
very expensive for plastic tubing, for water changes and new tank setups it is great!! The only thing I do not like about the python is it is not powerful enough to get any waste at the bottom, I still use a cheap gravel washer for that.

"No fish hobbyist should be without one!"
when it comes time for water changes theres nothing that helps like the python! 352.5gallons between 6 tanks all done in about an hour with the python hooked up to the garden hose!
It is easy to fill and drain your water. However, it does not have enough power to remove dirty stuffs.
I would use regular siphon to clean my gravels and fill water back with the bucket. That way you save water conditioner also. If you fill water directly to the tank from the faucet, you have to add water conditioner for the whole volume of the tank.
Great product - especially for large tanks. No more bucket brigade!
One caveat: When siphoning, it tends to waste tap water. So this might not be ideal for desert communities where water usage is at a premium. However, you can always use this to siphon without attaching to a faucet, and then attach to a faucet to fill tank.

This is like a dream come true. Since I have been using this I water change more often and my tanks and fish look 100% better. Well worth the money.
This is an awesome tool, but little pricey for what it is. Let's face it, it's a pile of plastic. I've got a great deal on it. So, if you're looking for one wait for a good sale and make the investment, as it is well worth it. There is a downside though. It's hard to mix water conditioner while filling the tank.
I am a newbie with fish tanks, but growing up my dad had numerous tanks and I remember what a pain it was when he changed water. Well I did my first water change and I must say the Python made it a simple as possible. One thing that I noticed is a minor leak but I think I may just need to tighten it a little. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.
