These are the safest, most technologically advanced heaters available. A thin layer of thermosensitive carbon and organic resins allows for heat resistance that increases along with temperature, meaning that the unit cannot overheat; even if left out of the water. Hydrosafe Heaters should be mounted vertically, and submerged up to indicated level only. Thermostat remains accurately calibrated even if the knob is turned too far; and a digital temperature indicator allows accurate setting to within 1 degree Fahrenheit. Remember that the size of the heater you use is directly related to the size of the aquarium; a general rule is 50 watts per 10 gallons of aquarium capacity.
I have a 150 watt model on my 29 gallon tank. Im not sure about the other reviews but this thing is dead on I set at 78 and my tank stays at 78. Even on days when my home is cold or hot. I've had it for a little over a year know and I had two therms. in my tank and they always read 78. I was a bit skeptical with the Petco brand but it has proved reliable. Don't only problem i had is with black markings on the outside I suppose this is to distrubite the heat most of them had been rubbed off I suppose this is my fault for scrubbing it too hard. And since you can on find it at Petco it can be a bit pricey. Will buy another when I get my next tank.
Have had no temp trouble as other reviewers have mentioned. My 200W gets my 55g to the temperature is says it will. Please with it so far, but have only had it for about two months.
I had one,it would not heat, I returned it. I had a replacement, it would not shut off, I returned it.
Needless to say I did not get another one. The company was very accomodating when I contacted them about the product. They sent me a free on in the mail. I returned that, too, for store credit.
Have a 200W on 75G tank and the heater is set at 74 degrees to keep the tank at 80 degrees. Consistant temperature and doesn't turn on all that much. It does the job OK.
i have a 300w on my 75g and i have to keep it set at 71 to have the tank temp at 79.it keeps it right at that but temp butthe temp should be closer to the set temp on unit. i would never buy another one.
By far the worst heater I've ever used. A couple I tried recently (the original and the replacement) fail to shut off. Also, the glass is quite thin and breaks easily.
I replaced a cheap, faulty heater with a Proquatics and was very pleased. The only problem is that the thermometer on the heater does not correlate with my aquarium thermometer. In other words, I have to set the heater to 74 to maintain a tank temp of 78 degrees F. But it is consistent, once you find the right setting, and the disparity could be due to different tank sizes and water movement.
