Our new Compact Fluorescent Strip-Lites are the latest design and feature an electronic ballast that is UL Listed for outdoor use. Of course you can't use these strip-lites outdoors, but by having an outdoor rated ballast that is fully "potted" guarantees that it will easily survive high humidity locations. The included GE 9325 Kelvin 55 watt lamp is brand new and has the same color output as the GE Fresh & Saltwater lamps we put in all our lights. It is an excellent tri-phosphor lamp with high output and a beautiful color for fresh or saltwater aquariums.
Available in Black and Oak trim with single bulb 24" and 30" lengths and twin bulb 36" and 48" lengths.
It's a great light. Runs very cool, so no fan needed.
I have no problem with the hue from the GE 9325K's. Really brings out the reds in the tank.
BUT, if you intend to use these for a planted tank, be aware that it will not be sufficient wattage if used alone, unless you have only low-light plants. 110W over 75g is 1.47 WPG. 110W over 90g is only 1.22 WPG. You need 2-3 WPG for most plants. If used on a 48" 55 gal tank, it may be barely adequate.
I'm using two 30" units on my 90 gal and the 48" unit on my 55. Personaly, I thought they were a bit on the spendy side but man do they bring out the color in my fish. Well worth what I paid. I couldn't believe the difference in the colors. I highly recommend them.
I bought the 48" 110w dual bulb unit for my 90 gallon tank. It's as bright as you could ever want - NO noise from ballast-at all! Wish the would have given 2 buttons (one for each side, oh well) The price was excellent (~$120) you can order replacement bulbs from drsfostersmith.com (CD-931248 Compact Fluorescent Bulb 9325°K Super Daylight (55W) $ 34.99 )
It's a pretty impressive unit when you get it, yet it does not weight a ton! I got the black and it looks sharp - deep black case, cable, button.
It has an excellent reflector interior which wraps comletely from front, top & back shooting ALL the light straight down into your tank.
Can't say anything negative about it.
PS - I mounted a moonlite LED unit into the lightfixture (with Velcro)... what a great combo !
Very powerful light and a very light set-up, my All-Glass light set-up weighs practically nothing. I have the 110W (dual 36" bulbs. My only complaint is I don't like how pink looking these lights are, same with VHO lights but they are tremendous growers if you have plants. I wish they have different colour bulbs for sale, if they do I haven't found them yet.
I also use the 48" strip. Cool to the touch, does not effect water temp, and emits tremendous amount of light. Excellent light for "tall" tanks. Only drawback is that replacement bulbs can be difficult to locate.
Got one of the 48" Oak from BigAl's for my 75 Gallon.. I love this light.. great output.. runs cool .. and it is UL listed.. at $112 ... one of the cheapest compact fluorescents out there. And All Glass is a great company .. they have gone out of their way to help me and my friends more than a couple times...
