I bought a bottle of this stuff when I was doing planted tanks in an attempt to get rid of black brush algae, which it did to some degree. I had a small planted tank that I used for a hospital tank/nursery that developed a case BBA, so I added this stuff at half the recommended rate and it killed everything in the tank, with the exception of the algae. I don't know if it had been sitting in the bottle too long, but it killed an entire brood of P. nigripinnis - 12 juvies and an adult. Too risky - use at your own peril!
As an algaecide for black beard/brush algae, I have found this product to be pretty much ineffective. It may be marginally effective in retarding new growth, but this is not the answer if you have black beard/brush algae. Dial back your photoperiod, get rid of your phosphates and nitrates, and get a bristlenose pleco.
"FINALLY AN ALGAECIDE THAT DOESN'T KILL MY PLANTS!"
Yep. It's true. Only takes care of hair and green water algae. Takes about 5 days to fully work. Algae comes back in a couple of months, but I can keep planted tanks with thread algae now.
TIP: But the "pond" versions of this or the new name "Algae Destroyer Advanced" for a better bang for your buck.

"Works but algea comes back"
It works some what but just wait a week and you'll be at the store buying more
I couldn't be happier about the job this does on algae/green water. One negative is it makes my fish lethargic and not as active.. This is strong stuff, be careful how you use it..
I bought this product to get rid of an algae bloom. My water had gotten cloudy and had a greenish tint to it. I added the recommened dosage and my water was clear again in just a couple hours. One teaspoon will treat 50 gallons of water. Other products require much larger dosages.
I needed a product to take care of a bad case of green-water. One teaspoon of this and no more problem. It did not take care of algae on the glass, but the instructions do say to scrape it first so I'm not sure that's a fair critique.
