"Great Test Kit"
It would have been nice to have GH and KH tests included but you can easily buy them on their own by the same company. The only problem I have with the tests is sometimes it's hard to clearly identify the solution color to the color chart. Take nitrate for example 10 and 20 PPM are both orange and are extremely similar. Aside from that which is a minor problem these tests are excellent and I would highly recommend this product to any aquarium owner.

"Only Test kit i will ever own!"
Very accurate and the only test kit i will ever own. I've tested this kit side by side with 3 other test kits and the others were all over the place, while the API kit is always consistent and correct!

"Best test kit available!"
These test kits are easily the most accurate test kits you can get! The master test kit is great value for money too.

"Nitrate readings can be variable!"
I have the API master fresh water test kit; the nitrate test instructions say to agitate reagent #2 vigorously for 30 seconds before adding it to the test tube. However, I have discovered that 30 seconds appears to be insufficient. In my testing, I found nitrate results for my water to be from <5 ppm to ~20 pmm, depending on how long I agitated the reagent. The <5 reading was with 30 seconds of agitating by turning the bottle over and back; the results seem to top out at about 60 seconds of shaking very vigorously, as you would a can of spray paint. Shaking for more than 60 seconds does not seem to change the results beyond this, so I think that 60 seconds of paint-can shaking is probably adequate.
I checked API's website (no info re: agitation) and submitted a question about this using their web form, but it's been 10+ days without a response.
I have no experience with other kits, so I don't know whether other brands have the same sort of issues, so I gave a rating of 4--but, if other kits are more reliable, I would definitely recommend them over API.
I'm also very disappointed in the lack of response from API.

Edit: 3 weeks later, I rec'd a reply. It said that one of the ingredients will solidify out of liquid solution if the bottle sits for "any period of time." He says to tap the bottle on a countertop several times, then agitate for 2-3 minutes. With weekly usage, it should need to be agitated only 60 seconds

"Dependable Test Kit"
The only negative is the slight complexity of the Nitrate test.

"Still the overall best."
For many years now these test kits have basically been the industry standard and it's not difficult to see why. They are fairly priced, readily available, effectively accurate and relatively easy to use. Some of the tests (nitrate especially) may not be terribly sensitive at detecting lower levels, and some of the tests (hardness) can be a bit of a pain to use - but all in all the API test kits are always a wise purchase unless you want to start spending ridiculous amounts of money on the specialist kits.

"All in one test kit"
I have always used the API master test kit in all my tanks. They're accurate and easy to use, but you need to follow the directions or you might get false readings.

"Good kits"
I have the full kit w/ the GH/KH tests also. They are accurate measurements, but the Nitrate card is almost impossible to tell the difference between 40 and 80. That is a pretty big difference, so I wish that was easier to interpret. Otherwise it is a good kit, and lasts quite awhile.

"Great Kit"
I have the master test kit, the GH/KH kit, and the phosphate kit, and they all work great!

Make sure you shop around. Best prices are online. The master test kit should only be $13-$14 or so.

My only criticism is that unlike the other kits, the hardness kits don't have the relevant instructions on the bottle (paper instructions get lost).

"This is all you need to monitor water quality"
I bought the Master kit for under $20.

Excellent value, I added the GH and KH hardness set because I keep Africans.

"Great Test Kit (Freshwater)"
I use the freshwater tesk kit. It has everything I need to test the basic water chemistry in my African Cichlid 55gal tank. The high range PH test comes in handy. I bought the entire kit for $18(including shipping)from Petsmart online. There are hundreds of tests that you can do with it, so you do the math. This is very economical, accurate, quick and easy! Can't go wrong, this is a great product. I highly recommend it.

"Very good test kit"
I use the PH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, GH, and KH AP tests. They are all easy to use and affordably priced. The color charts are easy to read and GH/KH color change is foolproof.
