Marineland Eclipse Filtration and Lighting Systems

Product Description:
Marineland Eclipse Filtration and Lighting SystemsMarineland offers three sizes of the Eclipse Lighting and Filtration Systems, which fit most manufacturers’ aquariums on the market today. The unique top of the tank hood effectively hides the light source and the filtration, and allows the aquarium to be placed closer to a wall than with a typical hang-on-the-back filter.

The high-performance Eclipse Rite-Size Filter Cartridge and Marineland BIO-Wheel provide total mechanical, chemical and biological filtration, ensuring 100% water-to-media contact for excellent water quality. The specially selected fluorescent daylight lamp promotes plant growth, and brings out the brilliant natural colors of ornamental fish.

The Eclipse systems are easy to setup, easy to operate, and easy to maintain. The top-mounted Eclipse filtration affords ample space for added accessories like heaters or air stones.
Product Specifications:
Eclipse Filtration and Lighting Systems come in 3 sizes.

2- Fits Aquariums 24" x 12", 200 GPH

"Great products-I've had all three"
We bought a 3 gallon for my daughter when she was 4, and a 12 to upgrade it when she was 6. The 12 is now her moneymaking breeding tank for neolamprologus pulcher. Probably too small, but with the great biofiltration provided by the biowheel plus frequent water changes, she's been selling 50+ fry out of this tank every 45 days. That means there are over 100 fry in this tank at one time, all healthy, all growing-a great testimonial!

Like the other reviewers, I agree that the hatch is too small. But this will be hard to fix, because the light is in the way. This tank is in her bedroom. It makes noise, but she hasn't noticed it since the first night.

These tanks are great products. The 12 is a huge upgrade to a standard 10 gallon glass tank.

"This is a great little package for desk tops"
This is a great little package for desk tops. Match the tank with black gravel and live plants for an very nice mini show tank. I have this tank on my night table and the filter is super quite. My Betta is super happy. Very well designed.

"Perfect for the office"
These are great, fun, maintenance-free aqusriums. The filtration is above-average, and they're perfect for tight spaces such as a desk, or on the kitchen counter.

"Good Aquarium, needs larger access flap"
My Eclipse System 12 is a nice easy to maintain setup. The only downfall of this system is that you have to remove the entire cover to access your aquarium for maint. or water testing. A larger access flap would make this system a ten! Good if you want a small tank that is very silent. Don't buy the small 10 gallon glass aquariums! They are super hard to clean!!

"Not for heavy waste makers"
I have two 37 gallon show tanks with the Eclipse 3 filter. The one for my mixed FW tropicals is great. However, I was so pleased with it, I bought and set up another one for goldfish. Goldies are such heavy waste producers, and adding additional filtration means an internal filter (forget HOB), which pretty much means messing up the otherwise pristine look of the tank. For those with fish producing a lot of waste, I wouldn't recommend it.

"Good introduction to fishkeeping"
I've had this running in my office for a couple of years now. It's easy to set up and displays neatly. The only complaint I have is how tight the opening is, I have a SIX. It's hard to do anything unless I take the top off.

"Alright for beginners"
although great for a quarantine tank i hated catching fish or doing anything of significance in these tanks because of how restrictive the tops are. the curved fronts also give you a headache if you look at them too long and distort what the fish look like. otherwise a well put together and largely fool proof set up.

"Great looking product, backed up by super-support!"
I have an eclipse 6, and though it's small...it carrys alot of display power.

I've never had a problem with the equipment, until one day I found a hairline crack on the top rim.

Not only did the marineland phone rep. give it to me for less than half off ( because I was lacking purchase receipt, other wise it would be free ), he shipped it for free...and threw in a new top rim.

An efficient, good looking system backed up by all-star support. :)

The only downfall is the high initial cost of the unit, but that's what you get for good looks.

"A great small unit for the novice."
I recommended a system 6 unit to my boss for his daughters bedroom. He didn't want a standard 10 ga rectangular tank and liked the looks of the molded acrylic eclipse.

They are a bit expensive compared to setting up a traditional glass tank, but are great for bedrooms, offices, etc where there isn't alot of extra space. Plus they look alot sleeker than a normal plain tank.

The only downside I can see is with the built in filtration, you don't have a choice to use anything else (I suppose a sponge would work). Although this is based on the penguin bio-wheel line and should be reliable for years.

"An attractive, self-contained aquarium"
This is an excellent table top tank. I currently use my system six at work for my desk. The sleek roundness of the acrylic matched with the top (filter w/ biowheel and lighting built-in) make this an attractive addition to any office where space is at a premium. The filter system is very quiet, and makes little noise.
The only minor complaint deals with the minor difficulty involved in accessing the tank for cleaning or water changes. The cross-supporting plastic runs right down the center, and with the filter system sitting in the back, it makes it hard to work around. A minor complaint, however, since this is a small tank and there isn't a lot of space to begin with.

"great mini tank for beginer or adavaced hobbiest"
a very well made 12 gallon with marine land's bio wheel filter in the hood an 13 watt compact flouresnt bulb, makes it a great place to keep any small fish with a graden of life plants.
the little tank is a little on the pricy side though and the acrilic tank is easy to scratch and the hood is a little combursome to move out of place to do maintanince, etc. how ever, marine land has set the standered for other systems like this in quality and aesthetics.

"Great all in one package!"
I have had great sucess with this setup. Make sure you don't use any cleaners on the acrylic because it will cause it to crack. I accidentally got some windex on the acrylic and 2 weeks later the acrylic cracked. I called Marineland and they replaced the aquarium, but warned me to only clean it with a wet rag in the future!
