Provides balanced nutrition for herbivorous fish. Spirulina is an excellent source of ammino acids and natural immunity booster that improves the over all well being of fish, while enhancing fish colors.
I've been on a search for a quality spirulina flake for my Mbunas. Everything advertised as "Spirulina flakes" had spirulina way down on the ingredient list. This is 40% spirulina and it's the first ingredient listed. Even my goldfish and gouramis in my other tanks love it.
I wanted to get a flake food that had spirulina in it and knew what the percentage of spirulina was ( in this case 40%). My cichlids go crazy over this food and it is easily consumed by small and large cichlids
only used it a few weeks,,my females aulonacaras have gotten a bluish sheen, over the drab grey,,and my red shoulder males are brighter than electric blue ahli now. you will see better blues, much better A++
I've tried a few other spirulina flakes, but this stuff is by far the best. Even better than Omega super kelp. The nutrafin is a nice rigid flake that doen't turn to dust in the can like most others. The most important thing though, the Mbuna absolutely love it. All of my cichlids actually love it. They prefer it to NLS and dainichi, which are my staple foods. I feed this stuff about three times a week, and the splashfest is always a joy to watch. No other food creates such a ruckus!
This is the ONLY food my mbunas will eat. Have tried a few others at LFS recommendation, they just spit the stuff out. They LOVE this stuff and it is obviously good for them as they are very active and have excellent color.
The first thing I noticed about this stuff was the color. It's so dark green it's almost black. Looked and smelled rich. Well, my fish go crazy for it! They must have thought the same thing I did "Wow, good stuff"
My cichlids Love this food, 2 days after i started feedin it i had a kenyi holding fry, it increases there health and color amazingly, i'm halfway done the bottle and the flakes are still a very nice size. go to petsmart and but this food now it is amazing!
Fed this to mbuna and peacocks/haps, they ALL love it. This stuff HAS lg. and med. flakes period, NOT some flake and a buncha dust. I have noticed more activity and bolder blues/purples in fish after feeding them this compared to Omega, HBH, Ocean Nut. veggie formulas.
All the fish have taken to eating it with no problems. The color on my female Kenyi has improved.
has used this product for 3-12 Months.

"Top Quality Spirulina Based Food"
I've been using this food for several months & I'm very pleased with the results. The flakes in my containers were medium-large in size with very little 'powder' remaining. Nutrafin boasts that Spirulina Pacifica (harvested in Kona Hawaii) makes up 30% of this flake food, which is very impressive compared to most of the other so called Spirulina flake foods on the market. Each container also has an easy to read 'best before' date stamped on the bottom so you know the food is fresh, which is often times an over looked detail. Good price, great product, and I'll continue to use this flake as one of my main Mbuna foods.
By far the favorite flake of my mbuna. First ingredient is spirulina, which some other spirulina flakes can not claim. They just go nuts for it. Has large size flakes, and crumbles less easily than other flakes I have used. One of the cheapest foods I have found as well, making it one of my staple foods for mbuna. Can not go wrong with this food for herbivors.
I stumbled across this in PetSmart one day, and decided to give it a try, as I have mostly mbunae. And as opposed to many "spirulina" flakes, it does seem to have a higher veggei-to-protein ratio. And I must say that my fish go after this stuff harder than anything I throw in the tank. I have to shut the lid after I drop it in, or else I'm cleaning up the water that they slosh over the side when they hit the surface.
It has a low amount of protein for the herbivores and the omnis love it too. Nice flake size, does not crumble to dust and does not have any "hard chunks" in it like some spirulina flakes. Good price too. They need to make a bigger container, though. I go through pounds of flake a month, this was like a one day appetizer! LOL
Unlike the other review, my bottle had very large flakes. Main ingredient is spirulina. I bought this to mix in with Tetra spirulina flakes as I didn't think there was enough of it in the tetra product. I use this along with other cichlid flake food for omnivores.
I decided to try this flake for my haps and found that most of the flakes in the can were powder. I had to throw away half the can since the flakes were so broken down. My fish did seem to like it though
