"Not a staple food, as label suggests." |
I would not feed this to any algae grazing African Cichlid as a staple food. Once and a while, sure, but it's liable to induce Malawi Bloat or Dropsy with all the fish meal in it if used on a regular basis. It says it's for Herbivores and Carnivores, but when fish meal is the first ingredient and Spirulina near the middle to end of the list I tend to be skeptical as to it's benefits for herbivores. Greens and Spirulina should be the first ingredients for any herbivorous food, not fish meal and fillers! HBH's 8 Veggie Flakes and Marineland Labs Bio Blend are both excellent veggie foods as staple. Too much animal protein is believed to be one of the main causes of Malawi Bloat/Dropsy and I know first hand this is true because ever since I switched to veggie based foods, no more bloat. This has been the experience of many Cichlid keepers. There are way better foods out there, but for the price, this stuff is O.K. Know and pay attention to your fish's native diet if they were in the wild and choose food based on that. Your fish will thank you for it. Cichlid intestines are very long and too much protein in their diet blocks them up, then disaster. Peas are a natural laxative and should be an ingredient in any Cichlid food as they will help prevent these blockages. I don't see Peas anywhere on this Wardley food. Their other products are fine, some are excellent in fact, but this stuff, I'll never it buy again. |
