I bought this heater in March 2005 and it stoped working correctly in August 2005. I had to pay $10 plus shipping to have Won Bros fix the heater. Upon recieving my fixed heater it did not work correctly. I had to call Won Bros and recalibrate it over the phone. Now it is December 2005 and the heater will not turn one when the dial is turned to 92F unless the temp in the tank is less than 70F. I called Won Bros again and they told me to recalibrate the heater. It did not work. It turns on but only at low temps. After only 9 months of partial use it has broken twice. Won Bros will not replace the heater nor will they send me a refund. Watch out everyone This heater will get you and so will the customer service.
This is a great heater and I love the concept of a thermostatically controlled heater with the control outside of the tank. I also like the LCD Digital display of the ProHeat II. I can check the temp from the other side of the room or simply when I am strolling by my aquarium. The trick to this heater is to be careful! The adjustment dial is very sensitive and needs to be placed somewhere where it will not be 'bumped'. ALSO, be sure you place the temperature sensor AT LEAST 1 FOOT away from the heater module. This is very important!! After I installed this heater I found out that the old adhesive 'on-tank' thermometers on my tank were both wrong. I bought a pair of new thermometers and discovered that my old thermometers were 4 degrees off! The ProHeat II actually helped me to discover this out and now I have no worries about the temp of my tank. This is a good product and can be found for about $35 on eBay.
I've used different brands in the past, but thought I would give this titanium heater a go. Two great features stand out: 1. Unbreakable. 2. Adjustment knob is outside of tank. A friend keeps his under the substrate and said that the plants in that area of the tank have shown remarkable improvement since he's done that. So far temperature has remained stable. I see myself buying another in the near future.
We started with a name brand glass heater for the Oscar tank. We tried hiding it behind everything imaginable and the Oscars would still get to it and bang it around. Finally the heater broke and we needed a new one. My LFS had a New heater in and it was suppose to be unbreakable.....I spent a little more for it and have been happy ever since. We don't hide the heater we just slap it in the tank. The Oscars have pulled it away from the suction cups, banged it around, and pulled on it, for the last 2.5 years. And the idea of putting the temp control dial on the plug end so you don't get your hands wet is amazing !!! I highly recommend this item..
I have the Pro-Heat II and am in love with this thing. Its so easy to give it a quick glance and see daily the tempurater has not changed. Not even in an a cold or warm house. The only down fall is the temp control needs to be guarded carefully. It reall hard to adjust it being that its so sensative to touch...myabe the third gen. should have a "clicking" knob selector instead of one that slides so easily. Other than that I love it. P.S. My cichs dug the rock out and collapsed them on top of the heater while I was at work. Thanks to its construction it didnt break..and the water temp didnt even change. Now thats QUALITY!
My temp does not fluctuate at all with this heater. It is very stable. I don't have to worry about it shattering either. My only complaints are that the cord is too short and the suction cups are a poor design making it difficult to keep the heater stuck to my tank. But it is titanium so I have no worries about wedging it against a rock.
This is truely a great heater/thermometer combo, it's always been accurate to 1 degree. I can't say enough about them, good enough that I have one on my 44, 85 and 150 gallon aquarims! Get it and you won't regret it.
I've went through 5 heaters in the past month. All of them just would not hold a temp. or would stop working after a week or two. I have had no problems with anything from this heater. the temp. stays right where you set it to. Even if the temp. out side of the tank is 20 degrees different. I would by another.
I have various sizes of the Pro-Heat; ranging from 50W to 200W. The heating element and control seem to be of good build.
But I do have some minor issues with them. 1) The temp sensor and power chords seem a bit short. 2) The size of the heating element are 50-100% larger than the Jalli Titanium Heaters of the same wattage making concealing harder. 3) The controller unit is the size of a medium transformer block and can take up 3 slots on a power strip.
Otherwise, they have been keeping my tanks at a rock steady temp even when the room temp drops to the 60's in the winter.
I've had numerous heaters, including Ebo Jager. Nothing comes close to this for ease of use, and stable, accurate heat control. Simple to use. You set it at the desired temperature, and the the temp does not budge from that point. Plus the safety of no glass... you can't beat this heater.
