The Tronic heater by Hagen is the most advanced heater available. Some benefits it offers are full submergibility, automatic shut-off, and a precise temperature gauge. Optional protective heater guard.

The design and words on the heater eventually wore off. It took me a while to realize wha the tiny blue bits floating around my tank were. Also, over time the rubber on the top and bottom has swollen. Other than that, it heats nicely and turns off once it gets to the desired temp.
I have three of these heaters (2x200W and 1x300W) and shall be buying another (50W) soon. I've used these for as long as I can remember and never had one fail, they maintain consistant temperatures and I've not had the problems of accuracy that some have mentioned. Even so, I always double check with a thermometer, who actually sets a heater by the dial and trusts that on it's own??
I also think they look good (not that that is very important) and am glad to read the auto-shut off works in the event of a problem. I have tested this by removing the heater whilst it is on and it does switch off.
The price of these heaters has fallen a lot, and they are no more expensive than any other branded heater on the market now.
I have been keeping fish for well over 15 years and even worked at a LFS for 4 of these years,so I have used almost every heater out there. This Tronic heater is super accurate and easy to set.The only heater that beats it IMO is Fluval's eheaters because of the digital temp screen.I bought the tronic heater for a great deal off aquabid and I highly recommend this heater. The Fluval/Hagen Tronic Heaters are the best heater I've ever used. I have a 100w tronic heater which I purchased nearly 6 years ago and have used it various tanks over those six years and it has never failed or had any fault or problems and it is still running strong. All the other models of this heater I have used do exactly the same job. These heaters don't leak or get condensation problems like Interpet Deltatherm, and don't rattle, feel fragile, or like it may smash like Visitherm heaters. Tronic heaters are excellent quality and will do the job.

"Best bang for the buck"
This is by far the most accurate heater I've tried. Haven't had to calibrate it...haven't had to double check it to make sure the water was just right. It is very reliable.
I give it a 10, because it is the easily the best bang for the buck right now. Miles ahead of the new ebo jagers i've tried.

I currently have 9 of the 50W and 100W Tronic heaters in use among 8 of my tanks (ranging in size from 5 to 29 gallons). The Tronic heaters have proven to be generally reliable at keeping the temperature where it was set. I particularly like the optional heater guards, which I use on every one of my heaters, that protect the heaters from damage and protect my fish from burning themselves. These heaters also have an automatic cutoff feature if the water level drops too low although I haven't had to test this myself. The only negative things I can say about these heaters is that I replaced (as a precautionary measure) a couple that were more than three years old and developed condensation inside the glass tube. I have another old one that is no longer properly calibrated and needs to have the temperature dial set much higher than the actual output. Overall, I highly recommend these heaters to anyone looking for a reliable submersible heater that won't cost you an arm and a leg.
While at work, my filter tubes popped off and drained 3/4 of my tank!!!! Needless to say I thought this heater was blown as it was out of the water for a few hours. But, it shut it self off before the glass broke and is still working.
I was so excited when I purchased my first submersible heater. I made sure I bought what I thought was the best. Well, it was for a while. I have to now replace it due to condensation on the inside and the coils are rusted. The thermostat is no longer responsive. I am going to try an Ebo-Jager next.
Hagen, not my favorite company, but they did a great job on this one. The sensor system it uses is awesome and very efficient! I have the 200W and it works great in my 55g. They only beef I have is the gage on the top that gives you actual degress instead of hot or cold, which I like, is off a few degrees. Always go by your therometer to be sure. Over all this is by far the best heater I have ever used or seen.
