Specially formulated mixture of carbonates, sulfates, and chlorides of sodium, magnesium, calcium and potassium with all necessary minor and trace minerals to approximate Rift Lake water chemistry. Designed to provide natural water chemistry to African cichlids and other rift lake fishes without significantly raising pH. Compatible with and designed for use with A F Cichlid Buffer for pH control and A F Cichlid Rift Lake Trace Elements. Contains no phosphates, nitrates, silicates or organics to pollute the system. (Note: competing products usually contain very high levels of silicates which encourage diatom (algae) growth on the tank walls! This product does not!) A F Cichlid Chemistry will also benefit most American cichlids whose waters are hard and have high pH's above 7.8!
When i bought this product and reading the directions I thought that I had to be maticulous about my measurements. I bit the bullet and didn't bother with the directions and added 1 tsp per 10 gallon and to my amazement I got the hardness that I wanted. Kent obviously made this product lazy proof. Recommended for all african cichlid enthusiast.
Using this product with RO/DI water creates the perfect environment for your cichlids. The powder is easy to use, but can clump a bit over time due to humidity.
I set my GdH to about 7 degrees at each water change, and this product is always consistant.
Like all Kent products, it is certainly above the rest in quality. There are no organics to pollute your system; and unlike many salt brands, there are no phosphates. It is quite concentrated also, so the large size will last a while.
I'd used the liquid version of this product for a while but prefer the powder after using it. We have really soft water out of the tap here, KCC disolves quickly, doesn't cloud the water and gives me consistent water hardness. I also recommend the liquid trace elements.
We are very happy with the Kent products, we have only been using them for a few months now but have noticed that they keep our water very stable.... it took us a few tries (in a bucket) to get the formula right, we use the AF Cichlid Chemistry and AF Cichlid Buffer together, we treat the water for water changes to match the tanks GH, KH.
