Product Description:
Aquarium Systems Millennium external wet/dry multiMillennium's wet/dry multi-filter combines mechanical, chemical, and wet/dry biological filtration functions in an innovative and efficient tank mounted external filter unit. The unique BioGrid plate provides a high surface area of biological filtration that is separate from the MechaniChem filtration cartridge. In this way, biological filter functions are preserved when the MechaniChem cartridge is replaced. A venturi air valve mixes oxygen with filtered water to improve gas exchange.

Product Specifications:
ML1000 up to 15 gallon tank, filters 90 GPH.
ML2000 10 to 60 gallon tanks, filters 160 GPH.

"Excellent filter"
I have a Millennium 2000 & 3000 each on different tanks, both are super quiet & always prime /start themselves. I've had the 2000 for 10 years & the 3000 for 12 years & just now the impeller needs replaced in the 3000. Inserts are no problem to find in my area - namebrand & generics are available, but I don't use carbon(I cut my own). I wish I could get another one, but they've been discontinued. Effective filtration, super quiet, easy to use/maintain & always self starts.

"Average performance, lots of gimmicks"
I got one of these from a friend for a great price, otherwise I'd have probably passed on the millenium. Overall I've got no complaints, it moves water and keeps ammonia and nitrite at zero, exactly what a filter should do. When I first opened the box the filter housing was cracked and leaked water all over my floor before I noticed. Aquarium systems was kind enough to send me a replacement at no cost. The overall construction is fairly weak, the plastic is too brittle. I wouldn't buy another one just because I'm afraid it would be broken in the box just like this one.

The "wet/dry" deal is a gimmick, I can't tell that the bubbles do anything other than make noise. I've never been a fan of filter pads that have to be replaced, I much prefer the sponges like AquaClear filters use. I keep a sponge on the intake of my filter to trap the largest debris and extend the life of the filter cartridge. I'll probably hack the cartrdige apart to remove the carbon and wrap it with inexpensive quilt batting when the blue pad gets too clogged.

Overall I'd rate this filter as average, it flows more water than a similarly rated AquaClear filter but, it's built with cheap materials and has gimmicks instead of needed features like reusable media or silent operation.

You don't seem to hear much about these, but they're one of best HOBs out there. One of the most reliable aquarium products I've ever used. (I had one that ran dry many, many times in a N. multifasciatus tank because of frequent sand excavations. A friend of mine is still running it on one of his tanks, nine years later.)

"Millenium 2000: Very good small HOB"
I like the Aquaclear filters for bigGER tanks. The AC110 and AC70 are awesome. However the smaller AC's seem very wimpy to me. For smaller tanks, the Millenium 2000 is second to none.

Tthe cartridges are cheap and you could replace the carbon in them quite easily if you wanted to. The floss is easily cleaned too. My LFS has 4 packs of cartridges for $8.

The wet/dry panel is what makes this thing though. Great bio-filtration. It is very quiet and unlike the AC's, it self-primes every time.

"Good bargain for the money"
I got a millenium 3000 when I purchased a used tank and I am pretty happy with it although the filter cartridges are a bit pricey. The only other complaint I have is that it has a hard time restarting when I do water changes. It does an excellent job moving and cleaning water though.

"Like my AC alot better"
I have a 2000 on a 30 gallon tank and a 3000 on a 55 gallon. While it moves some water the media has to be replaced atleast 1 time a week on both of mine. In about a weeks time the media becomes clogged and the water pours around the media over the intake tube and back into the tank. I have stopped using the media and bought sponge filters like what is in my aquaclear 150 and that has helped filter the water without reducing the gph. IMO don't waste your money. The AC's are more quite and has the best filtration of any hob filter available.

"good all around filter"
i had a 3000 running on my 75g with my hot mag 250 before i got my new mag 350 pro.as a hob filter it does a great job cleaning the water but did not like the noise from the air pumps.and having to buy new filter pads all the time.but if those things are ok for you then it is a great filter.

"Very effective"
This filter has everything needed for healthy fish. Separate Biogrid with vast suface area for bacteria and built in wet/dry aerating feature that provides the biogrid with oxygen to optimize bacterial growth. This system is a compact version of those more expensive wet/dry systems.
I've had two 3000s running for a year and a half on my 55 gal. cichlid tank, and a 2000 on a 30 gal. goldfish tank for 2 years. To date, not 1 single problem. Would I buy another one? #%$& yah!

"Very expensive inserts."
In my house we have four of these filters on three different tanks. Although I'm relatively happy with the quality and performance of the Millennium's, had I realized the filter inserts are the most expensive I've ever seen for any filter, I would not have purchased them. Here in Ontario they are $23.00 for a box of 4. Including tax.
