"Not good"
it's an Eheim, but it doesn't do a good job. I replaced it quickly with another HOB. It's easy enough to set up, but the flow is poor and the whole unit feels cheap.

"with modded media it works GREAT"
the stock carts are junk except for water polishing, but if you cut the floss off and rubber band a sponge to it, it works great.

mines on a 7g planted tank and is dead silent, easy to use, and was the same price as a junk whisper.

"Looks good but is at best overrated"
i bought the 150 model about 2 months ago. it is now in the trash. why? it is noisy. yes, even without the lid and sand as substrate to perhaps jam the impeller. the cartridges clog like every 2-3 weeks on my cardinal tetra 10 gallon. the bio filtration is cheap- uses junk green sponges that are inferior to tetra's bio-foam. i always had trouble with ammonia and nitrite spikes due to the poor bio-filtration.
on the flip side, when it was working the water was clear. it could not handle a 15 gallon tank though. overall, a this eheim design should go the way of the dinosaur

"Great"
This filter is currently running on my 10 gal betta tank. The best part of this filter is the flow control. Just turn the knob for a faster or slower flow rate.

"Dead easy to use, but almost totally ineffective"
I bought this filter to replace an Eheim 2211 I had on my 10 gallon tank (the 2211 blew up... literally... although that was my own fault). This filter is by far and away the worst filter I've ever used. It's easy to set up, but it's not pressurized, so the filter media can be 25% blocked, and 50% of the water will still be bypassing the media, so even though the media is still 75% useable, it has to be replaced- and the media is rediculously expensive. I was replacing the cartridges once every 1-3 weeks in a lightly stocked 10 gallon tank. I had the 200 too, which takes 4 cartridges @ once... In addition to the poor design of the mechanical media, there's virtually no biological filtration. It's got an open-cell foam pad that's around 1/4" thick x 1 1/2" wide x 4" tall (as I recall- I threw the filter away 2 months ago). The foam itself has the consistency of one of those bath puff things you've seen at the store- you know, those huge poofy things made out of some kind of plastic webbing that you use instead of a washcloth in the shower? Yea, those things. So we're not talking about a whole lot of surface area for biological filtration here...

And finally, the pump is really noisy (at least when you're trying to sleep in the same room as it).

The bottom line is that it's cheap, but it does an awful job, it's noisy, and expensive to maintain. I don't know what was going on when the guys at Eheim designed this thing. You'd be better off with an Aqua Clear or something...

"One of the best hot power filters for smaller tanks"
I currently have 11 Liberty filters running on tanks ranging from 10 ga to 29 ga. They are typical Eheim quality and reliability...excellent!

The only drawback I see is that you don't have a choice to run w/o carbon in the filter, which makes medicating the tank or adding liquid plant fertilzer somewhat of a problem. I just plan ahead and move filter pads that are more than 2 weeks old to the tank needing treatment. Still a non carbon cartridge would be nice to have.

I especially like the 150 and 200's ability to run 2 bio cartridges so you can seed one for use in a new tank. I always keep 2 bio cartridges running in every filter, for this purpose.

"Great filter but..."
The Only drawback i can find in an Eheim Liberty's series is that there is not a model for over 50 GL, it is easy to setup, clean, spare carbon and bio foam are cheap, it easily matches Similar sized Aquaclear.
