It does exactly what it says it does, it starts new aquariums with full loads for instant (or near instant) cycling. How it can get a rating less than a 10 in any category is beyond me, it is the only bio-starter product that really works, and in my opinion would be a bargain at twice the price. As of 04/20/04 we have a local retailer that still has a good supply but unfortunately once that is gone we may be out of luck for awhile. I have stocked up, as its shelf life refrigerated seems to be very good. I first used this product over a year ago (our LFS was one of the very first retailers to have it), and although I was extremely skeptical at the time,it has proven itself over and over since then.
Go back and read the reviews before mine, there is not a SINGLE NEGATIVE REVIEW on this product. I used the 30 gallon packet on my 45 gallon tank 30 minutes before adding my 8 yellow labs. It's great stuff. My fish were healthy and active as ever, and my ammonia and nitrites were 0. USE BIO-SPIRA....AND IF YOU HAVE A BIO-WHEEL SPRINKLE A FEW DROPS ON IT ALSO.... THERE IS NO LIVE BACTERIA SUBSTITUTE!!!!
This stuff really works and is worth its price if you're impatient and don't want to wait for your tank to cycle.
My ammonia and nitrites have been at 0 since adding fish and Bio Spira to my tank. It REALLY does work. It cost my about $20 for enough Bio Spira for my 55 gallon tank but I think it was worth it. It's been a week now and still no detectable ammonia or nitrites.
I used this with a 55 gallon tank... added 1 oscar 4 cichlids, 1 plc,1 synodontis catfish and bio spira at the same time. Daily nitrite/ammonia readings picked up a small spike on day 1 of .25 nitrite but it was down to 0 the next day. I paid 30 bucks for a package at my LFS which is a bit spendy...if I wasn't in a rush I would just fishless cycle :)
I have been in the hobby for 6 yrs and I truly believe in taking your time setting up a tank. When I purchased my third new tank the LFS told me to set up my tank and throw some fish in and just add the Bio Spira at the same time. No need to really cycle. My tank has been set up for over a month now and no sign of Amonia or Nitrites. This was the first time I tried something this crazy. This stuff is awsome I highly recommend it.
I was able to quickly cycle a 60 gallon tank using bio spira and 1 fish. I added more bio spira when I put in 8 Malawi cichlids and 2 catfish. My water tests were perfect my fish and tank remain healthy and looking good.
Had to re-cycle my 55gal tank. I had a slight filtration issue and had a huge ammonia spike. It was very, very slowly coming back down by using stress zyme, but I wanted my ammonia levels at zero, so I decided to try Bio-spira. Only used 1 oz. in my 55 gal. tank and less than 24 hours later, no ammonia, no nitrate, no nitrite, nothing. The water was perfect. Excellent product for immediately cycling a tank. My fish were quite happy :-)
Work perfect. I have 75 Gal. African Tank. I bought 12 fish to start with and 3 oz. of BIO-Spira. No Ammonia and it has been a month and second water change. Well worth the money when adding $100 of fish.
I was sick and hadn't been able to clean my 55 gal tank for several weeks. When I finally cleaned vacuumed the gravel and did a water change, the water immediatley smelled VERY foul and several fish died. I checked the ammonia and it was so high that it didn't even register!
Fortunately, I saved a few fish and moved them to another tank. For two weeks, I tried doing water changes to reduce the ammonia level. Nothing worked!!!
I bought Bio-Spira, put it in the tank and the NEXT DAY the ammonia and nitrite levels had gone to 0!!!
The price was high, but more than worth it. I will always use Bio-Spira when doing water changes and starting new tanks!
