Hagen AquaClear Power Heads

Product Description:
Hagen AquaClear Power HeadsAdding a powerhead to an undergravel system increases water flow through a gravel substrate and improves its filtering efficiency. It also oxygenates water and, in the process, provides needed oxygen to colonies of beneficial bacteria in the gravel which optimizes their biological filtration capabilities.

- Reverse Flow Operation - Both forward and reverse water flow. Keeps the substrate cleaner by forcing debris to the top.

- Easily fitted to most undergravel systems. Powerhead comes equipped with a tapered riser stem adapter which accepts .5'' to 1.125'' tubing. Rim clamp firmly holds it in place atop the riser stem and an optional suction cup bracket which allows the unit to hang from an aquarium wall instead of the rim.

"Most Reliable Powerhead Around"
I have used hagen aquaclear powerheads for a long time and they have outlasted my penguins and maxi jets. They are very easy to take apart to clean and push a lot of water. Great for fish who like a lot of water current. I have one that's over 6 years old with all the original parts and pieces. A quality product. Period.

"very good powerhead"
I dont have much experience with other brands of powerheads but this is fully submersable and has a good low. Very easy to setup and the extra filter floss compartment you can add on helps make your water crystal clear above providing areation and current. My only complaint is it does take up some significant room inside your tank so not sure it is ideal for smaller tanks.

"Tons of water movement; very quiet"
I have only had my AC70 in my 55 gal for a few weeks, but it's doing exactly what I wanted it to do--move water. I have a Marineland canister as my main filter and added this powerhead onto a DIY sponge filter. Lots of little bubbles, so I know the water is getting oxygenated. I bought it on clearance at my local Petsmart for about $40 and consider that a great deal. I really appreciate how quiet it is. It's behind my head when I'm watching a movie yet I never hear a thing.

"If it stayed put it would be better"
The power head won't stay put in the lift tube so I have secure the power head to the side of the tank, but this causes the powerhead to vibrate and make more noise than I would like. I like the Penguin Power Heads
by Marineland more.

One thing I will give my 70 is that is moves a ton of water and the reverse feature is pretty neat. The AC 50's that I have move a lot of water as well, but don't respond well to lower tank volumes.

I have used Penguin Power Heads by Marineland(550, 650, 1140), Maxi Jet Power Heads by Marineland(400 and 600), and AC (50 and 70). If I had more money I would replace all of them with Penguins.

If the AC stuck in the lift tube I would like them a bit more, but during water changes my AC's do not preform as well as my other power heads.

"Pretty powerful"
It is actually a pretty nice product for the price. It is really easy to use and create awesome currents. I just do not care for the Air flow intake. Mine goes in between insane bubble to a little less insane bubbles. Other than that is great.

"Second best"
It's big and you can hear it from outside the tank. It doesn't include an aimable nozzle or a simple screen-type inlet cover. You either have live with an open intake, or do what I did and buy the "quick filter" and remove that filter media. First I tried the filter with the media in it, and although it did a great job of filtering fine particles, it cut the flow in half after only a few days. Now, with the media out, it's just a big, empty screened-barrel, which works great to kepp stuff away from the pump's intake, but ends up being a huge assembly. Get a Maxi-jet and be done with it.

"Simple and effective....however"
you have to be very careful as a lot of the parts are very weak plastic and can and do snap off very easily. It is a very powerful powerhead for it's price though, but I'd go maxi-jet to save you some hassle.

"Best Bang For The Buck"
I have the AC70 in my 90 gallon and this thing hauls major water! I added the pre-filter option for ten bucks more. Extra filtration! The only drawback is that it's a little on the large side.

I used these powerheads for a long time after trying another brand I'm never comming back. The only thing I dont like is the nob that controlls the air. It dont control the air intake well and its easy to lose

"Always use these powerheads"
I had 1 402 for at least 6 years and never had to replace any parts. Still as quiet as the day I purchased. I now have 2 powerhead 70's for an ugj and they are good. Only downfall is they are rather large but they push 400gph.

"dependable as the sun rising in the morning."
i have a pair of 402s which were given to me with a tank i bought a couple of years back. i estimate that these powerheads were several years old when i got them. they simply work great. sometimes sand gets into various parts but a teardown takes so little time, it doesn't matter. i've dropped these things so many times. plug them in & away they go. i wish their filters worked as good as these items do! (cough cough)

I have 2 402's in my 55. Works quitly without any problems. Once it got pretty noisy. After a couple of weeks I took it apart and found some gravel inside. Cleaned it out and its working quit ever since. Its one tough and powerful little unit.

"does a great job"
I bought this for my ugj with 4 jets for my 55 gal. I bought the 802 with quckfilter because it pushes 400 gph. Little did i know it is not fully submersible but this problem was easily solved by using a larger hose to hook up to the ugj. The 802 is great no poop on the sand and it is quiet. the only downfall i can see is the size with the quick filter attachment when people say it is is big it is almost 12"from top to bottom. I would definetly buy another one.

"Falls apart when I try to pivot the flow"
Bought this on the recommendations here. I am impressed with the water flow, but every time I try to position the flow it falls apart in my hand. I am throwing it away and switching over to a Maxi-Jet. I hope its a little better and a little less apt to fall apart.

"great powerhead, not a lot of dough!!!"
i have had a couple running in both of my tanks for 6 months and find them very reliable and adaptable. i use one to create some water motion and attach the quick filter for a bit of extra filtering. works great. not hard on the wallet. last a long time. i inherited one from a friend and it runs great and is 6 years old.

"Cheap, Powerful, and LOUD"
While this powerhead performs well, it is louder then both my Eheims put together.

Also, while the quickfilter is an effective attachment, it takes up a lotta space.

Good, but doesn't match up to the Maxi-Jets.

"Pure Workhorse"
I've ran them in my freswater tanks, in my salt water tanks, I even rely on them for my reef tank. There is no doubt in my mind that the aquaclear power heads are the best you can get for the money. Years and years of service if you take care of them. Only thing you have to watch is if you don't clean them, when unplugged, some times they can be a bear to start back up. Once they are running however, there is not stopping them. Good flow rates on them too.

"The Best I have"
I have about 5 or 6 802's and a couple of smaller 402's that I bought about 10 years ago, at first I used sponges on them, then switched to the removable filter that adapts to them, they move alot of water around, work good on UGJ's also

I got 2 402's with a used tank. They are about 5 years old. I've put them through more abuse than they really should take, including sucking up sand (oops!). Still running on original impellers and silent enough for bedroom operation. They have tons of power and are very versatile. I created adjustable acrylic brackets to mount them though, as I hate suction cups (excluding Eheim suction cups).

"More silent than it's reputation"
The first 802 I owned was included with a used tank I bought. The powerhead was so used that there were no logos or writing on it and I had no idea what it was. A few years later I found one at a shop and bought one more. Today I own 6 of them and the first used one is actually still running.

I often hear people say that they are good but make alot of noise. I have one that is a bit less silent than the others but over all I think they are very quiet.

I placed a 402 in my 46gal. and my plants that were vertical are now horizontal; and that is turned three quarters of the way down. The water movement is astonishing. Love it, easy to equip with a home made filter and silent.

"A very good, reliable powerhead"
I have several of these in different tanks over the years. I use most with the Quickfilter attachment to provide extra water movement as well as a little extra water polishing.

I have to say that they are a dependable unit, still running strong after several years.

"Nice little unit"
Nice compact unit
I paid $13.99 each for 2 of the AquaClear201's which was a very reasonable price for me. Set at a minimum they pull far more h2o through my UnderGround filter than an air pump and airstone do. I had to set them at a minimum with my 40_Breeder since I also have the AquaClear500 PowerFilter which is also set to minimum. This setup in a 40 gallon breeder does create some currents but my Pseudotropheus elongatus seem to handle them fine. Because I have a wider tube in my filter I did have to use the cone attachments which meant I had to use the suction cups to attach it to the glass. This was really no problem at all in fact it made it more stable. I also used the included current deflectors which dispersed the current over a wider area. That is a very nice feature. I recommend this product for the underground filter setup.

I have a couple of these things that have been running continuoulsy (except for a minor cleaning out) for over 7 or 8 years! The bigger ones tend to seize when they get old, but you can always find replacement impellers for them.

"The easy current creator!"
I use a 201 (for a long time) for a 35G tank and just purchased a 402 for a 70G tank. Both powerheads have been equipped with an inexpensive AC filter attachment (one size fits all!) providing some back-up filtering. These are extremely effective water movers that have an easy to aim swivel body to point it in the right direction and an easy, effective air valve you turn to adjust the air bubbles from none to blasting.
I was shocked at the power of the 402, luckily it has a flow control and I have it turned down at the moment. It pushes water easily from one end to the other for a four foot long tank. Super quiet as powerheads should be.

"The AquaClear 802 is far superior to RIO 1400"
A few months ago I set up a 75 Gallon tank with 2 RIO 1400 powerheads. One of the RIO powerheads went bad and so after reading about how other people have had similar problems with RIO powerheads, I decided to replace the bad one with an AquaClear 802. Needless to say I am very impressed. Much better quality craftsmanship and a much more dependable product. If you are looking for a powerful, high quality, super quiet powerhead, look no further than AquaClear.
