"A basic heater that does its job"
I used to use these for a long long time. they are the longest running heater on the market, I believe I had one on my first, fish tank: it was a 10 gallon tank with an undergravel filter and 2 goldfish. well anyway, they just have to be tweaked at set up because they don't have temperatures to just dial in. for the price, its what you would expect.
Just as others mentioned, these things are ultra poor quality. The temperatures can be off by as much as double digits..goes without saying that it's dangerous for your fish. I have no idea why people are rating it 7s. I tapped it against the glass and it broke. If you buy one, be prepared to buy new fish too.
not accurate, tempature jumps up and down all the time, very cheap made i got one for free with my tank but would of never bought one even though they are inexpensive but you get what you pay for on this one

"I never had problems with it!"
I bought one for 10 bucks or less 5 yrs ago and I Honestly never ever had problem with it! I don't know maybe im lucky but...I just never had Problem with it and still working like new.
The only thing good is the cheap price. But when it comes down to it the cheap price gets you heaters that dont work properly. you cant get and exact temp and they dont hold temp well. they jump all over the place. Just get more expensive ones.
It doesn't work well! It's doesn't hold the temperature very well. I bought one a year ago...and it just stopped working for no reason. Don't be cheap. Please go get a better quality heater. It will save you in the long run.
i bought a 50 watt one for my ten gallon, and its a piece of garbage. if u get it set where u want it, you better not make the room to cold, or touch the heater. if the fish swim into the heater, the heater will turn on, and heat the tank 2 or 3 more degrees.

"Works and very cheap"
I have used them but see no reason to anymore. They can be difficult to adjust for many users however if you follow the directions on the package they work well for there intended purpose. I lkie the factory set submersables.
I've used two because I needed a cheap heater for hospital/qt tanks. One got bumped (not even hard) and shattered, the other I threw away. You can't get the temp you want, tweat it a little, temp goes up 5 degrees, turn down a smidge, goes down 8. Get it to a temp you like, check it the next day or a week later, it's risen or fallen 5-10 degrees. This heater was responsible for two fish deaths. I feel I am being generous for with the rating even.
These things are terrible. I only used a 300-watt one for a week and got fed up with it. It did not make a difference if it was high or low, the tank was always 88 degress F. If you think you are going to save money, you are not because you will end up buying a better brand any way.
I put a 50W in my 6G(yes six) tank. I expected it to do something. In the 12 hours in the tank and at the highest setting, the water temperature did not change at all. At a 50W rating, I would expect some of that 50W to be expended on some heat. The ease of use would have gotten a better rating had it had any effect.
I made the mistake of buying a couple of these heaters. In value they are cheap and so is the quality. Ease of use they are 9 because you just turn the dial. However they are not stable and the thermostats do not last. 2Two Thumbs down on these.
"Some people love 'em - I'm not one of those people!"
I tried using (2) Thermaflows in my 55 gal tank - one in each back corner. My target temp was 79 degrees F. I kept tweaking and tweaking and tweaking and tweaking and tweaking. . . . . . . u get the picture.
Since there is no way to set an exact temp, there's no way to tell how close u r to your target temp except to keep checking your thermometer, and readjust the knobs on top. I would get the suckers to heat to my target temp, go away for acouple hours, and they raised the temp up 4 degrees - tweak 'em just a tiny little bit - go away a couple hours - now they dropped 7 degrees - it was frustrating. The only way I could fix this problem was to go buy (2) Ebo Jaegers - the best heaters around. :)
