"PH 1140"
It's a great pump, but the mounting system is terrible, both the bracket and the suction cup allow the pump to lean and vibrate against the glass, I had to prop it around my canister's outlet, I would not buy another one of these, also they don't make a prefilter for it

edit: I bought a sponge filter, and slid the lift tube around the intake of the powerhead. it's not a perfect fit, but it works really well, and it helps keep the powerhead sturdy. still has really great flow, my fav part about it

"Works Great"
I have used many different types of power heads. These are by far my favorite. They power through any type of tank I put them in (fresh, salt, sandy substrate, ect...). They keep keep the water moving and stay put in the lift tubes.

These power heads do what they are supposed to do. Move a lot of water!!

"Pretty Solid"
Mine has been operating for quite a while without a problem.
The only thing is the air cleaner must not have been working well as the air hose got clogged with debris and I couldn't figure out why I could get airflow. I cut the hose section out and it works again.

The air hose is a little loose and the silencer can pop off at times, but overall this thing does a great job.

I bought a 550, and have since aquired a 1140 that needs and impeller and I couldn't be happier than to buy the impeller for these great units.

"Great powerhead with lots of flow"
Again, another PetsMart online price match. Got the 1140 300GPH for 19.99 in store. Got a pre-filter for $3 at Sherman Tank Co.. Couldn't ask for anything better.

"its purty good"
i really like the powerheads. i have had 2 penguin 550's in a 150 gallon tank for 13.5 years, nonstop working.i just added one to my 29gallon last year ago and its pretty good but where you put the tubing from it out of the water to suck air, well my powerhead will suck air and aerate my tank for 1,2,3days even a week then it just stops blowing air and blowing water and I've replaced the cottn.it's not too very loud because i sleep near it so i like it.it just should blow the air nonstop till u make quit yourself.but im going to buy 1 or 2 660s from petsolutions in about another month for another tank.

"Great, does everthing it supposed too!"
I've had an 1140 for about three years and never had any problems at all. Only wish they came with the pre filter sponge but you can get those for $1.50. I like this powerhead so much I just ordered a second one.

"Good Power Head"
I have been using 2 650-R set ups in my 75G tank for RUGF for 5 months now with great success. They are so quite that I have to touch the pump to be sure they are even on. I have not had any problems restarting them when doing tank maitaince.I would recomend the unit to any of my friends.

"Replaced all 4 of mine"
I own 4 of the 170 gph that comes with the prefilter. These were used for RUGF & UGJ. Problem with the UGJ was mounted sideways and substrate was getting pulled in through prefilter. I never heard the pump making noise but it has destroyed the magnetic bushing. I have replaced all of them with RIO's.
Out put is also very low compared to other powerheads.

"poor powerhead"
the waterflow is awful, the directional plate never stays in place and when I have to shut them down it takes forever to get the thing to start again! it doesn nothing for my undergravel filter system, such a disappointment. sometimes, i have to take it apart and mess with the impeller to get the thing to work. it's not worth the high price at all. i'm switching over the a new powerhead in the next few months.

"Terrible little unit"
Asides from it being very loud, and I mean very loud. Vibrated on the glass and just didn't work right. also the diffuser broke within 1 day.I am just glad I bought it off eBay because for any more than I paid (7 bucks) I would have been furious.

"Good Powerhead"
I have three Penguin 550s in my 46 gal. bowfront for water circulation and surface agitation. They are sleek and stylish and are not eye sores in the tank. The flow rate is adequate and the output nozzle is adustable both side to side and high and low. The only problem that I have had is with the optional air lines. The airline is a piece of blacktubing with an air input control to adjust intake of air for added aeration in your tank. Opened wide it adds agreat deal of air. Supposedly with it closed it is to alow no air into the lines therefore realeasing no air into the tank. Well this was a problem. With the knob in shut off position it would still release small amounts of tiny bubbles into the water, creating the appearance of a dirty tank. I eventually took the hoses off all of the heads. They work fine now, no bubbles, no rattling. Overall I am satisfied and may purchase from penguin in the future.

"One key flaw..."
This was my first powerhead purchase. Easy to use, very quiet. However, one key problem: every time I uplugged it, I had to take it apart to get it running again. The impeller kept slipping and would not start. I'd be curious if others had the same problem.
