Zoo Med's Power Sweep powerheads are the first and only rotating powerheads available. With a full 60° of rotation the Power Sweep replicates natural water currents without the expense of a wave maker. The sweeping action breaks surface tension and film, which allows for increased oxygen exchange. The Power Sweep is fully submersible and can be used alone (with the included pre-filter) or in conjunction with an undergravel filter system. Drop one in your freshwater or marine aquarium and eliminate those 'dead spots'.
-Great for use as a Wave Maker!
-Increases efficiency (i.e. Flow Rate) of Undergravel Filters.
-Automatic Rotating Feature Creates Greater Surface Agitation Allowing a High Oxygen Exchange Rate.
-Excellent for Live Aquarium Plant Tanks
-Comes Complete with Venturi Aerating Feature.
-2 NEW Sizes Available!
Model 212 (125gph) for aquariums up to 20 gallons.
Model 214 (160gph) for aquariums up to 30 gallons

Read an ad on this power head and found it might be the one that I would need. WRONG!!! Nothing on this power head worked! The water flow was very poor indeed. Clogs up even if there is a little bit of debris in it! What a dissapointment. Zoo med seems to have good products at times. I guess they kind of messed up on this one!!! If you have to get one of these, best to be used in a goldfish bowl!!!!
Its great for water movement and aeration, but you always have to be fixing the little propeller that does the sweeping motion because it either gets clogged with debris or grains of sand. Either way it still works great without the sweep and after a couple weeks i just stopped fixing it.
It works...mine is over 2 years old and has yet to break down on me. The sweeping action is driven by a simple mechanical design. It is easy to clean and get it going again once it stops sweeping. But it also clogs fairly quickly and stops sweeping in my reef tank. Never had any problems with it causing too much heat either.
I have had one of these for about 8 months and I have had to remove the autosweep part. I got tired of taking it apart to clean avery three days. The autosweep is under designed. and the power useage sux for output!
"Great product for the value, but does possess a few small complications"
I love this powerhead and think it is a great addition to tanks in which the owner is looking add better circulation. As mentioned in the other posts though, it does require a certain degree of maintence and things can get jammed in the sweeping mechanism (especially granules!!). Circulation from it is great and the bubble feature is nice as well, but as far as the companies claim of it being a "wave maker" is a bit bogus, although maybe I just need a more powerful model.
I have had 2 and both stop after 2 or 3 weeks, you clean the iside with a brush and it works again for 2 more weeks. Thats on salt water never tried on my freshwater tanks, I am sure it works much better.
I think that this powerhead is well worth the money.I have it in a corner opposite a powerful filter and they seem to keep the water moving. All of you who have had bubble problems, it's as easy as making sure that there isn't any water in the air line. I would buy another.
This is an effective powerhead it is strong and well buit. Thats the good know the bad. The sweeping motion which is kool stopped working after 3 months. I have cleaned several time re-adjust tried everything to get it to work again. But the little cheap plastic teeths inside have worn out this is the problem. Another it does get a bit warm. Also like the other review said it does spit some water out thru the sides. And yes the unit has to be a bit above water fot the bubbles to work the aerator tubing has to be out of water. Maybe with some refinement this can be awesome it has not stopped working with the exception of the sweeping motion in the year I had it.
I really thought the surface action was going to pick-up shiznott!! Every lfs has this product on sale Hummmm!!!!! A newborn releases with more force than the " Pwr Sweep " rtn to lfs the nxt day......
I've had this 214 for about two months. Initially it was hard to get going. the bubbles didn't seem to want to work. but i found that if the powerhead remains partially out of water it works fine. The flow diverter also seems to stop the bubbles. Once i figured it out it worked fine, and i've not had one problem since installed. the sweeping is really cool - seems to me it would be beneficial in longer aquariums that don't get adequate circulation from just the main filter. I also noticed that some power is lost due to water flowing out around the cam assembly - and i think this whole assembly is why the bubbles are finicky. But again, once i got it going it worked great. Note to people who love this but can't get bubbles to work: If you already have an air pump, get a split valve for it and run a line to the powerhead's air intake. it won't usurp much power from your air system and you'll have control over the ammount of bubbles it spews into your tank.
I purchased one a few weeks ago to supplement a Rio powerhead. The ZooMed like other have said raised the temperature (the house is AC cooled to 78) to 84-86 degrees. The flow is fairly poor and the bubbles of course do not work. I am going to be taking it back it possible. It is a nice idea in theory but just doesn't work out in reality. I had the model labeled PS-20 but I think they left the "O" out cause it should have read P.O.S.-20
This is absolutely garbage. I purchased one and it lasted for one week. It also heats up your water to dangerous levels. I contacted the company and all I got for a response was a catalog of there products.
I used, or should I say TRIED to use a 228 for 4 months. After 2 months of use, with regular maintenance, the sweeping feature quit. For the next 2 months I tried to get it to function properly and NOTHING worked. I finally got peace of mind when I threw it in the garbage and bought another brand.
We first got this product as a demo from our ZooMed rep. After putting it on a tank to breed goby cichlids....I fell in love with it. Very easy to use....very durable! I have not found a better power head in years! This thing has been running for a year in our Goby tank! I highly recommend them!!
My 228 works ok and the sweeping motion is awesome. The only problem is that it shoots some water where it is not supposed to out of the cam part that sweeps. This seems to take some power out of the jet.
I bought one of these about a year ago and it was broken within two days. I sent it back and was given a replacement and it was also broken within a couple of days. This happened several times and finally I just gave up. Dont waste your money on this item.
I bought a pengiun powerhead and it didn't work but i wanted one of these to begin with so I took the other one back and got one of these. I really like the sweeping feature that they have onlike anyother. I would buy it again. The problem stated in the post before about the bubbles....I found if you blow in the airline while it is running it starts the bubbling action.
Ok .. I just got mine... so I can't say that they run forever.. but it seems to be a great powerhead. I really like the sweep motion ... the only thing I can say bad about them so far is that they are hard to get the bubbles working.. seems like the powerhead has to be part of the way out of the water.. otherwise it won't spit out bubbles ..
