"Small ones seem OK, big ones should be avoided."
This seems to be the overall opinion on these pumps...and I frequent a few forums besides here>>>the small ones are pretty good, although I find them a bit noisy, and the big ones are just accidents waiting to happen.

"Noisy, stops working all the time."
I bought a Rio 1700 for use on a closed loop system, it for the most part doesn't restart after a power outage, unless you mess with it, have to clean it all the time to get it to work. I unhooked it and bought a different brand.

"They fixed the problems"
Rio has fixed there lock up problems and also they seems to be quieter now. For the money these power heads get my vote. Great GPH per dollar spent.

"works great . . . when it works"
I've had two 1700's working for about 4 months. It was cheap, rated well and relatively small. But then when it came time to clean them, one shaft broke and the other stopped working. Cheap in, cheap out. I'd have to say ease of use was a 9 because of how easy it was to throw out.

"They do a good job for a great price"
I have a 3100 running a wet/dry for multiple tanks and it does a great job. Haven't had any problem with it. It is a bit noisy though.

"Warning - Not a happy user of this product."
These are some of the loudest pumps in the business. A fact that certainly does not help but, when you combine that fact with gross levels of GPH flow-rate under performance? Terrible!
- Accessories sent with this pump are meaningless and seemed designed to break early... Meaningful equipment like a built-in sponge pre-filter seem conspicuously absent.
- I Do Not recommend this product.

"works well when housing not overtightened"
I have been using a rio for some time now with no problem. What i did notice is that if you overtighten the impeller housing it will cause loud noise and early burnout of the impeller due to unnecesary friction. If you have any noise problems or jamming just loosen the housing a little.

"Do Not Recommend RIO"
I purchase two RIO pumps last summer and I do not recommend them. They are noisy and the impellers break too easily.

"Very unhappy with Rio!"
When I first plugged My Rio in I heard no noise whatsoever. But after one month of continuous use the noise is not acceptable. I took it apart and cleaned it out, but it didn't help! I would not Recommend this pump.

"You get what you pay for"
As far as dollar/gph you cant beat these pumps, but you will sacrifice quality. After 3 months the pump had become so noisey that I had to remove it from my tank. I also experianced problems with the motor locking up after power outages.

"Tough to think of it as any kind of value."
I have had mixed success with the Rio's. I was running two for UG jets but after about a month one became very loud and often would not re-start. The one I am still running works is working perfectly. They are not overly expensive and are simple enough to clean. I wouldn't buy another myself because of my poor luck with them. Sort of like Vegas them Rios.

"Buyer Beware"
These pumps have a very efficient output of water per watttage used. Unfortunately they can "lock-up" after they are shut off, and during a power outtage could leave you without any water flow. I can only recommend this pump for non-critical uses such as current circulation or draining and filling, not for daily pumping of a filter or sump return.
