Bought this to go with a craiglist tank purchase to replace the non working T8 that came with it. Some things more obvious now than when I ordered it:
- The power cable has an inline connector that makes it easy to detach from the light without having to unthread the transformer from wherever your power strip is.
- There are no controls on the light itself. This means you'll be using the remote at least twice a day. Make sure you can see the sensor from wherever you use the remote most. - When I want to do any type of heavy work in the tank, I take the canopy off and set it aside. It's nice not having the sensor attached to the canopy so I don't have to worry about dragging the light off. I just have to find a spot near the stand to set the light (within the 6' or so of sensor wire length). - The modes are ok. I like the four memory presets, and the the dynamic cloud modes are pretty soothing. Not all are useful, but enough to make it worthwhile. I like this light. I have no experience with other lights, and no real high performance needs, so the multiple modes, low profile, and ease of use make it a great value for me as a new hobbyist
I feel totally ripped off after having these lights for 3 months. I've never used any lighting modes other than white. No lightning, no moonlight, no sunrise, nothing. I run them like normal lights and for the price I could have gotten a dual T5HO setup and possibly some replacement bulbs too. Grows algae like a champ but otherwise not a great product.
For what you pay for this light and the features you get it can't be beat. I just love sitting at my desk and playing with the remote. I had no idea I could get that much color out of my fish with just a light. It's fun to experiment with the different combinations (pre-set or my own creations) and watch the fish react. On my frontosa tank they are deeper water fish so I can simulate that or when I want to show them off I've found a color combo that highlights their colors. Seems to be very well made also.(metal housing not plastic) I Love it!!!
I bought a single 48" LED Plus for my 250 gallon tank that is 32' deep. I have to say I am impressed by the penetration of the light, on brighter settings the bottom of the tank is well lit. The spread is no so good, which of course is typical for LED strips and with my tank also being 30" front to back, the rear of the tank is a little murky with the light currently on its legs at the front of the tank. I will look at suspending it since the tank is set in a wall I have that option without worrying about the aesthetics. My only small complaint thus far is that the remote does not transmit too well through sheetrock so I have to step up to the tank to switch the setting which almost makes a remote control pointless. I am going to try to slip the sensor between tank and framing so that it's more able to pick up the signals and will report back on that. As far as the effects are concerned I absolutely love being able to vary the lighting, the moonlight settings let me watch the fish swimming somewhat more calmly than is sometimes the case. The special effects (cloud cover) add an extra level of interest too.
I have two of these light units now. For the price you get good bang for the buck. I run 48" lights on 6ft tanks. The ends of the tanks are dim but I like that effect. I like the various light effect settings and use different ones at different times (other than the lightening). I wish this light came with a timer and the ability to set a separate time for the blue lights. Overall a great buy. Search the forum for Current Satellite LED to find more info on this product.
