"High Lumen Output, High Heat Output" |
48" running on a standard 75 gallon tank. Initially I wasn't sure whether I liked the 'shimmer' that the lights produce in the tank but I've since grown accustomed to it. To date there have been no problems with the light. I removed the optics shortly after installing the light to give a broader beam for each LED. I found the beam with optics too narrow and it impacted on the overall spread of light in the tank. Algae growth is abundant, I would say slightly more than my previous setup which was 2 T5 (Actinic and 6500K) and 2 T5HO (Actinic and 6500K). My 2 bristlenose plecos are barely keeping up with the glass algae, the rocks stay clean however. Had I known how hot this fixture would get, I would have ordered the fan system which is an optional add-on. That being said, it isn't much hotter than a regular T5HO fixture. As with the Beamswork and Marineland LED fixtures, the switch options are limited to lunar (moonlights), off and lunar+white. As with the majority of folks with these lights, I wish there were separate switches and plugs for the white LEDs and the lunars so separate timers could be used. Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase and intend to equip any future tanks with the same light. -Addition I've recently taped over some of the blue LED's as it washed out the colors of some of the fish. I prefer the whiter look the light now gives the tank. |
