"defective"
Worked great for 6 months, then came home to tank that was over 90 degress. Thank goodness this heater didn't have any more wattage, it would have totally fried my fish. I recalibrated the red knob lowering it, and tested it, and unplugged it when it went past 84 degrees. This thing is junk now.

"Excellent Heater"
I've had one of these running in my 30 long for over a year and a half now without any issues. I really like the red light that comes on when the heater is running and then shuts off when water is up to temp.

"Dangerous!"
Update: after calling Marineland, and although I didn't realize that the recall on these heaters ended 6-9 months ago, Marineland customer service was excellent, not only did they allow me to ship the heaters back to them at their cost, but also fully refunded me $165 for 6 failed heaters. For this, I will remain a faithful customer and will use their products.

with having over 25 years in the aquarium hobby, 10 of those years with african cichlids, i have never seen a more poorly made product, i have 4 of these #%$& heaters that have either failed completely or almost fried my fish. They are the 50wt(1), and 200wt(3), they are all being shipped to Marineland(shipping on me)with a scathing letter which will also be emailed that they have lost me as a consumer due to such poor worksmanship. Be careful new hobbyist, these heaters will work initially, but will fail in a 1-2 years and kill a lot of fish.

"Easy to use when it works"
Very easy to set up and use, but I've not had good luck with them. Originally had 2, one went out, got a replacement, and now the replacement and the other original are not working. They supposedly have a lifetime warranty, but I can't even get a response out of their support team. In addition, the silver paint on the exterior of the heater flakes off and floats around in your tank.

If you do pick these up, don't take the temp rating on the heater to be accurate at all. Generally they're off 5-10degF out of the box.

"It's simple and it works"
After having trouble with a high tech model heater which didn't work well at all, even after being replaced, I decided to try a simple basic model. I have two of these and they seem to work well, and they are simple to operate.
