I was talke into trying some Ultimate and I most agree it is the best out there.
I pour it in a 1 quart pal and dump my aquarium salt in with it. I mix it up some some RO water (Only because it seems like everything fixes better with ro). Then when I fill the water in my tank using my python I pour my water into the pal over the tank and let it spill over into the water. Using that method is the only way I have ever done a water change without my fish breathing heavy for an hour afterwards. My city water is one of the worst in Ohio, so go figure (that is way I only keep africans in the first place, everything else dies in my water).
The only think I don't love about it is: 1. It's a little more expense and hard to get, but my fish are worth it. 2. I seems to produce a layer of foam that reminds me of that tanks with a bunch of nitrate look like. So I used to test them a lot then I first started using Ultimate. (Has anyone else noticed that?)
This product is made by the folks who invented and patented Novaqua and Amquel I like this water conditioner because of this quality, and becuase it is the only one that truly DOES IT ALL! Made in the USA too.
From the Hikari site: "Again there is some confusion in the marketplace regarding this product. Aquascience Research Group is the laboratory that holds the patent on the Cloram-X® molecule which was originally brought to market in a product called Amquel®. Kordon® marketed Amquel® and owns the trademark rights to that name. Within the last year or so Kordon® went to another lab and created a new product called Amquel® Plus using a completely new formulation. Kordon® did not have the rights to the old Amquel® formulation, as the patent to it was held by Aquascience Research Group but they did not have the rights to the name “Amquel® to continue selling the original formula in the market. "
well i can say that i am no chemist, but this product has show impressive results. The water quality is ok from that tap where i live, it doesn't contain ammonia. But the reason i gave this product such a high rating is that i have been pouring water from tap directly into the aquarium for years and it wasn't until i started using Ultimate that my fish (south american cichlids of all types, includeing discus) show no signs of stress after a large water change/cleaning and the most important part is i have had much better results acclimating new fish using Ultimate.
