"NEVER AGAIN!"
This thing was such a nightmare. It felt cheaply made which is never a great sign. I assembled it according to the instructions and couldn't get it to work for the life of me. Instructions said to remove the impeller from the motor and then put it back in after attaching the tube. That impeller would NOT come out...not even with pliers and the brute strength of my male coworkers. I tried calling Penn Plax for assistance and that's when it really got bad. They answer their phones for 2 hours a day. And during those 2 hours, you're way more likely to get their voicemail than a person. Their voicemail will tell you to email for a faster response. When you email, you get an auto-reply that says they'll get back to you in 2-3 business days. They never returned my calls or emails. When I finally got a person on the phone, she told me to take it back to the store even though the insert in the box says NOT to take it back to the store and to call them directly instead. This was such a waste of HOURS of my time. I returned it to the store and bought the Aquaclear 70 power filter from Amazon for the same price. I was able to put that together in 10 minutes and had it running in no time.

Do not waste your time and money on this piece of garbage. If you happen to get a bad one, you'll never be able to get your warranty replacement anyway. Check their FB page if you don't believe me. No more Penn Plax products for me!

"Amazing Filter, Especially for Goldfish"
My brother has a 150 on his 20 gallon goldfish tank that has three goldfish and a snail. It keeps the water crystal clear and his goldfish happy on healthy. Plus, there are no complaints on noise. I am very surprised because I have always used Aquaclear filters and XP canisters. I was also surprised to see that the cartridges have zeolite as well as carbon in them to really get proper chemical filtration at no extra cost! The Bio-Falls actually work! It is wet/dry and it exchanges gases well too. But make sure you keep the Bio-Falls clean. His goldfish are really appearing colourful and his water is in immaculate condition. This filter is truly a dark horse in the filter world.

"Good for the price, but noisy"
I have two 300 units on my 120 and they do a decent job filtering the water. But their impellors are a bit on the noisy side. The filters are easy to clean, just slide out. But like many others who have one of these filters it must be supplimented with other filter media.

"Pile of #%$&"
I have used the 300 for 2 years now it is a pain in the but to get theimpeller back in and to try and slide the intake tube back in pluss the media plugs up after a week . so i switched it all over to aquaclear media now it seems to work alot better. still hate cleaning it and getting impeller back it in curse you pennplax

"It works... sort of"
I have used a Cascade 300 the intake tube is too short for anything over 55 gal. It has a sponge for bio that works rather nicely, however the floss/carbon media clogs easily causing water to dump out at the intake. Also removing the carbon from the media is a pain. It did ok on my 90 gal oscar tank along with a cascade 1500 canister, but i have switched it for a penguin 350b which seems to flow a lot more water has a much better intake system. The cost savings is really too small to justify buying the cascade. Though it is doing pretty well on my 55 mbuna tank soon to be supplemented with another 350b.

The worst part is if the power goes out the filter drains and needs to be refilled when the power come back. It sounds horrible outside of the tank i can only imagine what the fish think.

"Love them!"
I have a 100 on my 10 gallon and had a 150 on my 20. The 100 has worked absolutely perfectly and I've never had even a tiny bit of trouble with it. It keeps the water crystal clear for close to 3 years even when the tank was overstocked.

The 150 on the 20 got a bunch of sand blown into it by the bubble wall and it ruined the impeller (NOT the fault of the filter). Before that, I didn't have any problems with it. I tried to get a new impeller locally but none of the stores had them and at the moment, I don't have the time to order one and wait so I just went ahead and bought a new Cascade 200. I haven't put it on yet, but I have every confidence in it and don't expect to have any problems.

And neither had leaked even a drop of water.

I have had two cascade 300's one on each of my 60 gal tanks with two oscars in each and they keep the water clean and the toxins down this is of course with a once a week water change but i am impressed by this filter but the quality of it lacks a bit I have a 150 that leaked but I fixed it up in like 5 mins.

"Acceptable... for the money."
I had one Cascade 300 (which is rated to 100 gal.) on my 46 gal bowfront, it wasn't enough. I bought another one and I feel I still need more. My Cascade 150 on 10 gal. shellie tank does well. I am starting to have impeller problems and rattling and I have only had the one for three months, the other even shorter. The downtube is nice and the media slides in easily. For the cost (if you buy via internet) its a decent filter. I am planning on a new 20 gal. long for more shellies, and I am searching for another HOB power filter, but probably going to spend a little more cash.

"Works"
This filter works as good as any other. However, the two tabs that hold the motor to the filter are very cheap and break easily. There are plenty of better options out there.

"Not a bad deal"
I have both a 100 and a 150. They are not as quiet as my Aquaclear, though removing the lid reduces the noise, and they are still quieter than an air pump. They are made of a good, sturdy plastic and have an extendable intake tube which I like. Would prefer if there was more room for media in there, and they do not do well with very brackish water (spit up a lot of foam). Overall, a good product for the price.

" very disappointed!! Wish I could have kept it, but it leaked"
I liked the overall quality
I liked the larger charcol filter
I liked the shut off valve.
Seemed to have lots of power.
A little noisier than others I have had.
"BUT" it leaked where the motor mounts to the case. Did everything the instructions said to do, but still leaked. Returned it to the store to exchange it, and the store owner checked the new one and it leaked too. As did the next 3. Owner sent everything back with Cascade marked on it. Tried to E-mail the company and report the problem but never got any response.

"Very Good Power Filter"
The cascade 300 are very good power filters. I use it on my 46 gallon saltwater reef aquarium and it does a good job as secondary filter to my eheim 2217. The filters are full of carbon and it has a biological sponge filter and a hang on biofilter on the output. Overall I would rate these equal to the emperor but much less expensive to run because of the cost of the filters. The Emperor also causes a large amount of evaporation and salt creep on salt water aquariums do to the spray bar for the biowheels. I have also used the Millenium filters and would rate these higher overall.
