Female and juvenile coloration is distinguished by an orange anal fin (see pic #2). Males are orange-yellow to deep orange with a yellow dorsal fin and vertical barring. In the wild, it has been documented that males sometimes defend spawning sites on the sand between rocks while other times, males may dig a shallow crater next to a rock.
