This species is closely related to T. macrophthalmus but differs in habitat preference and color morphology. It is found at a depth of 22 meters, whereas T. macrophthalmus prefers the upper 10 meters of the purely rocky habitat. Males are golden yellow but become blue with yellow-orange patch on the nape and anterior part of the back as they get older. Females are golden yellow.
