Comments:
This species is nearly identical to P. perspicax at Chirwa Island, exactly opposite Pombo Reef on the other side of the lake. It is characterized by a yellow snout and throat. Females are brown with 9-10 narrow vertical bars. It is sympatric with P. sp. "Perspicax Orange Cap" at this location. Males aggressively patrol their territories. In the wild, they feed by nibbling from the algal mat in a manner similar to Labidochromis spp.
