The fish of the genus Petrotilapia, contain the largest mbuna in Lake Malawi. The fish have mainly tricuspid teeth, that they use to comb through the aufwuchs, pulling off diatomous algae, microorganisms, and loose particles. Plankton is also eaten by Petrotilapia.
