This species is found on both sides of Lake Malawi. It dwells at a depth of 7 - 25 meters and feeds on small invertebrates and crustaceans living in the sand. It captures these by scooping up silt and then filtering it through its gills. It's also possible that it feeds by scooping loose aufwuchs off of rocks. The population from Metangula lacks the submarginal band on the dorsal fin. |
