It dwells at a depth of 5 - 15 meters amd is usually found in small groups or alone. It feeds on small invertebrates and crustaceans living in the sand. It captures these by scooping up silt and then filtering it through its gills. It's also possible that it feeds by scooping loose aufwuchs off of rocks.
