Aquarium Decoration (Rocks, Plants and Substrates) • Seachem fluorite with tropica nutrient layer

Hi. I'm setting up a 4 foot, 64gallon planted aquarium. I want to use an inert substrate that is good for plants and am thinking about seachem fluorite.

I'm considering putting a 1cm nutrient layer of tropica substrate underneath as a base layer.

Has anyone done anything similar? The base layer will provide temporary nutrients to the plants and help them to get their roots down.

No fish will be in the tank?

I have used flourite but did not find it any better or worse than other plant substrates.

I’ve used it in my community fish tank. A mix of Flourite dark and sand. Flourite on the bottom, sand top. It’s worked well for me. I use Thrive C as a complete fertilizer and also homemade root tabs. You still need a good light though. I have a Fluval 3.0 and really love it.
