California power outtage is going to kill my brand new fish

Postby VaranusPanoptes » Wed Oct 09, 2019 12:47 am

If the power goes out for days at a time I am going to lose all my cichlids. I just got them set up now my hard work is on the line and the lives of my fish are in jeopardy.

Get a $9 battery powered air stone and run several of them continuously.

Take the media out of your filters and put it in the tank so the bacteria can get some air circulation and continue to live and grow.

Long term consider a generator. I have found if I run the tanks 1-2 hours in the morning and 1-2 hours in the evening (when house residents are eating/dressing anyway) I am fine indefinitely.

Ended up with a battery back up but went without one for the first day. Everyone is still alive! :)
