Postby jimmyjam923 » Wed Sep 11, 2019 9:42 pm

Treating for Ich woth heat and salt and im having a tough time getting the temp above 83. I have a top fin 300watt. Should i get an additional heater? I've been turning it up slowly all day but now i have it maxed and its not getting warmer

You havent said what size tank? TopFin is a Petsmart brand and very low quality imo. If the heater is staying on and you arent getting warmer, it is going to burn out. Aquarium heaters, even the best arent meant to be on constantly. They come on, get very hot and shut down, usually in 1-2 mins. You could do a warm water change, get to the desired temp, which should be minimum 87 btw, and if the heater is still functioning, it might maintain. Easier would indeed be another heater.
1500 gallons of South and Central American cichlids. Some with a "wee" bit of attitude.
