Is 21”x21” base dimension enough?

Postby Neothauma » Tue Jul 23, 2019 12:43 pm

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum and I’d like to consult a thing that I am not sure about. I am a Lamprologini enthusiast and I’ve got experience on remarkable number of species, mostly shelldwellers. I think I have enough for now and I want to try other species in my main tank I will purschase in next fall (it will be my biggest tank ever). I will probably go with Malawi mbunas, but I don’t want to give up Tanganyika at all. I am considering to purschase a 21”x21”x15”h tank (55cmx55cmx40cm in metric). I know it can be quite enough for two different shelldweller species, and what about a rockdweller like Neolamprologus buescheri? It’s my favorite Tanganyika species and I cannot think of a Tanganyika tank without it. Unfortunately, I can only afford the space I mention above for a Tanganyika tank, and the question is whether I can keep a pair of N.buescheri, a pair of Altolamprologus sp. Sumbu shell and a small harem of N. multifasciatus. I experienced them all before, but in separate tanks. Can I keep them in the tank above?

Buescheri like to kill shellies so I would not combine them.
