P. scalare "Manacapuru"

Postby KelB » Fri Jul 06, 2018 6:24 pm

Over the past couple of years, I have been seeing these "red back" P. scalare photos online... Seems like they're a color variant (or subspecies?) from the Rio Manacapuru in Brazil from what I gather. I have never laid eyes on one, but think they are absolutely striking fish. Almost similar to P. altum, but without the tank height needs.

Is this variant becoming more common in the hobby? Are there captive raised specimens, or are all of these guys wild caught? There doesn't seem to be a ton of info out there on them that I've found, just pics of them (normally in black water biotopes).
